k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang Bring Sing it Loud to the Lancaster Performing Arts Center
The Lancaster Performing Arts Center is proud to present k.d. lang and The Siss Boom Bang Sing It Loud Tour Saturday September 1st at 8 p.m. Launching her career with a blend of country-rock stylings and a playfully punk-like attitude, Canadian singer-songwriter k.d. lang has been delighting audiences with her unique sound for more than 25 years. A multi-Grammy and Juno award winning artist with well-known hits such as “Constant Craving” and “Miss Chatelaine,” lang’s latest album, “Sing It Loud”, debuts her new band the Siss Boom Bang and has already garnered wide praise as “a must-have for every music fan.”
Having teamed up with such music legends as the late Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, and Elton John, k.d. lang has consistently raised the bar fashioning a sound – if not a genre – all her own. Her best-known collaboration was with veteran crooner Tony Bennett, with whom she recorded the 2002 Wonderful World duets album. Bennett may, in fact, be her biggest fan and he declared to the press what so many fans have come to believe over the last two and one half decades: “She’s the best singer of her generation.”
Last year, as she celebrated the 25th anniversary of her recording debut, lang found herself being pulled back to square zero, yearning to hear country music at sound checks and longing for the richly collaborative experience that comes from being part of a band.
“I always felt like there was a part of me that wanted to continue the cow punk thing,” said lang. “But I didn’t want to push it. It’s something that has to arise naturally. And this was just the year."
k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang—comprising Joe Pisapia (a multi-instrumentalist who co-produced the album with lang and serves as musical director), Daniel Clarke (keyboards), Fred Eltringham (drums/percussion), Joshua Grange (baritone guitar, dobro), and Lex Price (bass)—will be on tour again this summer, performing material from Sing it Loud and songs from throughout lang’s career.
“I would have to say that Sing it Loud is probably the pinnacle of my creative life because it happened so fast, so naturally, and with so much joy,” said lang.
