I went up with a buddy and flight instructor, George, to refresh my crosswind landing skills in the Willamette Valley. We had the pleasure of sharing the pattern at a nearby airport with a beautifully restored DC-3.
It was a fun surprise and totally captivating to watch the old bird enter the pattern and land. We were about to depart the pattern and head to another airport to play with different winds but then the DC-3 came on frequency and announced that it was about 10 miles out and inbound. George suggested that we take another lap around the pattern and make a full stop landing so we could watch it land. By the time I was turning base to final it was about 3 miles out which gave us just enough time to land, taxi back to the end of the runway and position ourselves for a front row seat at the hold short line to watch.
I'm always in awe by the fact that we can keep planes that are 50+ years old still airworthy and in good flying condition.
Apparently the DC-3 belongs to Aerometal International, LLC.
