I never got why Abby was surprised at how tall Ava was? If she knew she towered (I mean this in the nicest way possible) over the rest of the girls, why bring her on in the first place?

I would guess that ava was not abby’s choice to be on the select team, but rather a producer’s pick because of the potential drama between jeanette and the other moms. jeanette had clearly wanted ava to be on the team since s3. iirc ava is at the audition for the replacement team at the beginning of s3. then jeanette was at the one comp in the s4 episode “no solo for you,” and she went into the aldc dressing room and had the big argument with kira over whether or not ava could beat kalani. so putting ava on the select team fulfilled jeanette’s season-spanning goal and provided more drama.

but since abby probably never wanted her on in the first place, and since ava’s height was an insecurity for her and something easy for abby to latch onto, she focused on that to undermine ava’s confidence (and probably also to see if ava would break and leave). and of course, that probably pleased the producers too because it lead to even more drama.

My thoughts on Tall Girl because why the hell not

So my mom got to pick the last movie for movie night, and I'm at the salon waiting for the color in my hair to set, so let's get into it:

Look, I watched Dance Moms (ew), and I know what terrible bullying Ava Michelle went through on that show, and it was truly terrible

THAT BEING SAID, who in their right mind thought any of this would be relatable?

This girl is tall and blonde and pretty and white, she should be getting dates left and right

As a matter of fact, SHE DOES

No seriously, every guy in this movie who isn't related to her is interested in her at some point (lol can't relate 😭)

When was the last time anyone used the phrase "how's the weather up their" seriously

Also, how is there NO guy at school taller than her? She's only 6"1'! Do they not have a basketball team!?!

The black character (they MAYBE mentioned her name once?) is the stereotypical "sassy black best friend" and I hate it

She seriously has NO personality outside of being the "supportive best friend"

Like, you learn nothing about her the entire movie

She doesn't even have a fucking date to the dance, she's just off dancing by herself

To be fair though, no one in this movie has more than one or two character traits

There's a big moment at the end where the main character comes to homecoming in a suit, and it's played off like this powerful moment, and I'm just over here thinking "when has she ever indicated she's even remotely a tomboy?"

Also she just waltzed into homecoming goes on stage and gives a random ass speech about loving yourself, and they just let her??? What kinda school just let's random kids make speeches for no reason!?

Also how is she walking so perfectly in what are supposed to be her first ever pair of heels?

The main love interest is super charming and nice until the last ten minutes of the movie where suddenly he's an image-conscious asshole out of nowhere so you don't feel bad when she inevitable rejects him

She ends up with the creepy friend we all had because we didn't yet have the balls to tell them to fuck off in high school

Also his mom just. Surprises him with a foreign exchange student. Didn't even remotely warn him he would be sharing HIS ROOM with a total stranger

The saving grace of this movie is the older sister who has the sense to play into the ridiculousness of the whole premise

All in all shit movie that has no idea why kids are REALLY bullied in school.

Note: please don't think this is hate for any of the actors involved. The kids actually showed some promise, and hopefully this movie doesn't ruin their careers
