This is related to the "is Ava a variant of Aphmau" poll. Mostly because it got me thinking and I want to share my thoughts on my own post.
Because I voted "no". And it got me thinking about the multiverse thing Jess is doing now.
I like Ava because she doesn't feel like Aphmau. She feels unique. Meanwhile, to me at least, Aphmau just always feels like... Aphmau.
I like My Inner Demons because I think it's a nice change of pace. No Aaron, no Aphmau. No main characters we've seen in MCD, MS, Alternates, MT, etc. etc. Not even in ASMP, I'd dare say (because I'm only counting Pierce and Noi, and they are VERY different in these roleplays)
My Inner Demons, to me, was a good mix of plot and slice of life. About as good as Jess can write. I've vented enough about my flaws with the series, I'll spare you all.
Ava, to me, has so many differences with Aphmau I don't think I could say, "Yeah, that's Aphmau in a different font."
Aphmau loves kids, and I think she talks about wanting them. Ava hates kids. She literally pushes them down in the street.
They both have a lot of men in love with them, but I don't think Aphmau uses it to get what she wants even half as much as Ava does.
Aphmau has a single mother. Ava has two rich dads that fund her apartment.
Aphmau is... ambitious! She started her own cafe with Kawaii~Chan! Ava could literally never! She prefers to sleep and I don't think has ever had a job.
Aphmau is sociable and makes friends easily. I think in all series. Ava has 1 friend that isn't the 5 guys in love with her (unless you count Mrs. Oates, then she has two.) And she's a little rude to her sometimes.
I'd even say Aphmau is braver than Ava. Say what you want, but I've heard what she does in MCD, she fights Michael in MS. Ava only fights back when she thinks she's in mortal danger, and faints from fear
Aphmau, to me, feels like she want to help change the world. Ava, to me, feels like she'd rather let it pass on by.
And that's why, I personally, cannot say Ava is Aphmau's variant. And I feel that making her that, taking away what makes her unique and stand out for the other roleplay protagonists is a disservice to her.
