Gabrielle Aplin, Waking Up Slow
And all my days, we can lay low, yeah when we’re waking up we’re waking up slow...
Heaven help me, my mind changes like the wind, please excuse me, I don't know where to begin

You can stay in the past You can live a lie Say I’ve changed Call me cold Call me what you like And never know what it’s like on the other side
It’s sweet dreams and forest scenes in Gabrielle Aplin’s new video for ‘Waking Up Slow.’
Directed by Charlotte Rutherford (the creative mind behind videos for Marina & The Diamonds’ ‘Blue’, Fickle Friends’ ‘Brooklyn’ and MØ’s ‘Not In Love’), a sleepwalking Aplin finds herself in the grips of a retro fever dream led by a cast of weird and wonderful characters, who quickly initiate her into the fold as they dance deep in the heart of the English countryside. Until it’s time to wake up, that is... It’s a youthfully vibrant display in perfect sync with such an upbeat anthem.
Aplin says about the video via press release:
‘’Waking Up Slow’ as a song is about appreciating life as it is and focusing on the positives and deciding to just be. I wanted to focus the video around the idea of not being able to sleep, and turning that night into an adventure instead of a frustration with no real line between reality and a dream. I wanted to incorporate an all female cast to blur the lines between day time and night time whilst having fun with fashion and colour.’

Moving on from the cool retro pop of previous singles ‘Miss You’ and ‘Night Bus,’ Gabrielle Aplin’s latest single sees her looking on the bright side.
From her new EP Avalon, the self-affirming tropical pop of ‘Waking Up Slow’ is awash in sweet, colourful synths, cascading club pop drums and good vibes, along with the psychedelic visuals to match. Rather than letting herself get caught up in the past, the track sees Aplin reborn, throwing herself headfirst into life without regret as friendship soon turns to love (’You know I've never been so lonely on my own/And it shows/'Cause I don't see you/Like I used to/Now I'm going back on the things that I know’).
The British singer says about the track via press release:
‘‘Waking Up Slow’ is a super positive song! It's about that euphoric "aha!" moment after feeling perhaps misplaced, or stagnant. It's about that moment where you decide to just let go, letting what will be, be and choosing to be present.’
