About "Avastuck"...
The thing is that as much as I would have loved an Avastuck crossover, and I think that it would have made the comic a lot more well-known, I understand the creator not wanting a crossover to happen.
She wanted something unique and special and wanted to challenge herself to make something so creative and original that it would get popular all on it's own. I can understand the feeling of creating something you think is amazing and finding the strength to pride yourself on such a good job, only to have the original concept lost in a sea of people who take a spin on it of their own.
It's like making a drawing and showing it to a friend, and being happy because they like it. Only to find that the next day they have three times as many people crowded around their own work (which used inspiration from your original piece) simply because your friend is the more likable of you two. Sure, you get credit, but it just makes it feel empty and as though it isn't worthwhile.
Maybe I'm just blowing smoke, and maybe I'm biased because I can relate...
I think, in another way, it would be like getting a hug from a stranger. Hugs are wonderful! They're comforting and a sign of affection, and usually people say that everyone should hug everyone because hugs are so wonderful. But there are those of us who shy away from physical contact. It feels wrong and it feels like a violation of our personal space. I feel like that people who say the creator of Ava's Demon is wrong to say "please don't" because crossovers get her publicity and would grow her fandom... They're like the people who hug you when you don't want physical contact and when you say "please don't" they get mad because EVERYONE should love hugs! Hugs are wonderful and you're being a priss for not accepting a hug!
They're the people who you've told not to touch you because it just feels uncomfortable and wrong but they like hugs so they're going to hug you anyway. Whether you like it or not.
Because even though it is your body, it's something that they can touch and so they have every right to. Even though that's wrong.
An artist's work is a part of them. It's just as important as their body. And if they don't want to be touched or crossovered, don't take it so personally. Please just respect their wish and for god's sake, please try to understand where they're coming from.
I wanted Avastuck to be a thing, just like I want hugs (from a very very select few people). But if she doesn't want it, I won't violate her right. It's hers. Not ours.
Have a demon eridan
AH THE WAY YOU DRAW HIM IS SO FUCKING TERRIFYING I LOVE IT.
Progress so far: About 750 words sitting on their own, with two smaller pesterlogs floating about randomly as well. Not sure if this will end up being the beginning, or a piece later in the story, but enjoying it so far! I won't clog the tag with any more progress posts until I actually have something worthwhile to show for it. uwu
Thanks for the clarification! Are you going to do a visual type deal or just written fanfic
It really depends. In a perfect world where I have artistic ability, It'd be a layout similar to Ava's demon. Unfortunately this is not a perfect world, so I'll have to rely on words rather than stick figures.
Basically, it's going to be a fic. Possibly illustrated. But that's all I know for sure at the moment.
So this is my take on that on aradia design
OH WOW WHAT A CUTIE.
Avastuck: What the boys are wearing
All right. I said I'd do this last night, but here's cool too.
Dave: Unlike the rest of the kids, Dave doesn't attend traditional school. Instead, he works in a kind of apprenticeship setting, winding the clock towers on LOHAC. Since the inside is full of large, moving gears, whether he's ascending from the inside or the outside, he has to be dressed for it. He wears climbing boots similar to these, which have good tread- important when you're trying not to fall to your death 30 floors up (again).
He wears this with black (NOT SKINNY) pants similar to jeans (he has to be flexible, after all), and a white tank top. LOHAC is hot as shit, so this is all he wears with the exception of his shades.
John: LOWAS is much more pastoral than LOHAC, and while John does attend school, a good deal of the "lessons" are taught outdoors, learning about the land, how to cultivate it and how to live well on it. He wears a loose-fitting, long sleeved shirt that goes about halfway down his thighs (similar to kurta), which is dark blue in colour. It's made of a heavier material, as it can get chilly on LOWAS. His pants are made of the same heavy, dark blue material, and it's paired with a pair of simple brown shoes.
what's a good description of eridan's avastuck form as a demon? i'd really like to draw him as close to canon as possible!
Eventually I'll compile all of these "what does x look like?" asks into one place but sure here we go!
Eridan is probably the furthest from humanoid out of everyone in the group, and the one who most closely resembles a typical "demon". From the waist down he has a tail resembling Davesprite, or any other Homestuck sprite's tail (however, it's black-y purple in colour). He has black tattered wings that span about 6ft across (so they aren't huge). He's modeled after one of his planet's angels, which look like this:
His hair and horns stay the same, but his eyes (like all of the demons) are completely white. His hands are much more claw-like, verging on being avian but not quite.
I hope this helps!
