So I know you and a lot of HP artists draw Harry as Indian, which I think is awesome. I actually have a fan theory that the reason the Durlseys hated Harry and James was because Lily and James were in an interracial relationship? What are your thoughts?
Yes I’ve seen and like that theory tbh because it realistically (and sadly) would make a lot of sense. I’m sure that Dursleys would definitely be racists if actual racism was ever explored in the books. Black Harry headcanon makes sense as well in that context since Dursleys always picked on Harry for his “unmanageable” hair and I feel like Harry having afro-textured hair would, again, explain a lot and add more weight to the whole thing. And generally, Dursleys hated the fact that Harry looks so much like his father and always were embarrassed about having Harry in their family, so in the POC Harry narrative, Harry being mixed-race with darker skin just really adds another heavy layer to the story... especially it being set in the English suburbs of the 80s-90s. So yeah, whenever I consider my headcanons in the context of the real world (as opposed to the fictional fantasy), Dursleys are racists and that’s partly why they disliked and mistreated Harry.
