BIG ANNOUNCEMENT THAT YOU’VE PROBABLY ALREADY NOTICED

Do you dislike Marvel comics as a whole, or mainly just the Avengers movie and the fandom that arose from it? (Also, have you read "The Runaways"?)
I used to be a gigantic X-Men nerd (1980s to early 1990s era) and still have all the issues I collected as a kid. Nothing against Marvel really.
I didn’t like the Avengers for two reasons: one, because Tumblr ruined nearly every cool moment of the movie for me and talked/shipped/giffed it to death before I could afford to see it, and two, I didn’t know much about any of the characters except Tony Stark and the movie didn’t really give me any reason to care about them as people. except Black Widow, she was cool, but she didn’t get to do as much as I would have liked. arguing this point is futile. the whole movie could have been her running around kicking dudes in their dumb brooding faces and it still wouldn’t have been enough.
I liked the Ed Norton hulk. Whoever plays him in Avengers gave me the “brutal abuser barely suppressing his rage at you” heebie jeebies really really bad, so the entire plot arc of him struggling with his sads left me completely cold because every second of his story made me feel unpleasantly threatened. I am familiar with Captain America and Thor but not really all that interested in them.
Loki, though. Loki was a large ham soaked in clotted fan jizz by the time I got to see him in action. Untagged gifs of his “clever” moments, porn, shipping, endless endless nattering about Loki Feels—all inescapable. It couldn’t have been more ruined. Who gives a fuck about Loki? Not me. I was sick of him before I walked into the theater.
The dialogue and fighting scenes were fantastic, though. It was a really funny and exciting movie. I just wish I’d seen all the other character movies first, maybe it would have made me like the protags enough to get past the fact that they just aren’t that interesting to me in this one specific movie.
I have read some of the Runaways and it was pretty awesome.
