Aventurine Waveflair is actually kind of heartbreaking because he’s once again being commodified. It has a pretty exterior, but at the end of the day he’s being used, selling himself at his own detriment.

If you didn’t know better, you could almost think he’s sincerely having fun. After all, he’s doing things that should be enjoyable (surfing, volleyball, enjoying a cool drink). But nope, he explicitly says it’s difficult to keep his smile plastered on as they take photos. He can’t even enjoy a vacation without being used as a product.

It makes me wonder about the copious Ratio references in his outfit (the laurels, the ducky, the design on his surf board). Like genuinely what is that? A small rebellion? Holding someone he genuinely cares about close, even when he continues to be exploited? Because Ratio seems to be the person that values Aventurine’s independence and safety the most.
