Walking the dog.
3, 13, 14, 18 for Avery please! I love her sm
Eeeee thank you Meep! 🥺
3) What was the first thing you decided on, the character's name, appearance, personality or their role in the story?
The role in the story came first, and it branches out into different time lines depending on what the mood calls for. Then came the personality, sort of a middle ground between Dexter and Mandark’s extremes, someone that serves as a counterweight, but also out of their mind in their own right. The character’s imagery was inspired by Doc Ock, and the tragedy of their invention as well.
13) Do you have a playlist for the character? What songs do you associate with them and why?
I may have a few songs that remind me of their personality or specific scene in the story. 8)
The chaos of being dragged by a metal arm with its own directive and function, the conflict of two different systems at odds, the pain and confusion, suddenly in spaces you shouldn’t be in, such as cramped ventilation and elevator shafts, lost and panicked. And then of course, the subsequent attempts to escape such a horrifying place after breaking into it, which is made impossible.
Avery’s time at the tower. 12 forces them to endure hours upon hours of modifications and experiments to improve functioning. Snarks off to the Executive and regularly pays the price for it. But cannot leave and eventually has to come to terms with the situation, and with them.
After Avery/22-B falls into line, a new and improved guarddog.
14) Do you have any quotes tied to the character, either from the story itself or from another source that fit them?
I feel like "You petty bitch." Gets passed around a lot amidst the throuple, that's the general vibe.
18) Does the character have other characters connected to them? Do you have a family tree and "offscreen" connections made up for them or do they exist in a vacuum purely for the purpose of the story?
Avery only had her mother growing up and her mother was not exactly the most involved parent. It’s part of why Avery really wanted to excel in science and in school generally because she wanted attention and approval. She doesn’t like talking about her mother or that time period. She had struggled to hide the fact that their home life was not “traditional” or supportive and was often jealous of households who had that family dynamic.
Aside from familial relations, here is her dynamic with other characters:
Dee Dee: Obviously spent a good amount of time around each other in their youth. They are mostly on good terms, sisterly, especially when they reconnect in ET timeline and if Avery ever manages to escape, Dee Dee is of huge help to them. Avery can understand and appreciate Dee Dee’s enthusiasm and hyperactivity and is extremely patient with her (for the most part 8))
Lalavava: On and off again “friends(???)”, Avery was never really sure, sort of low-key terrified of her but still tried to be chill about it. Lalavava doesn't want her to get sucked into the Dee/Lee/Mee group (for selfish reasons).
Douglas Mordecai III: Hung around with him and Dexter as kids, tried to rope them both into DND campaigns regularly, Douglas was very keen to join but the sessions nearly always were run into the ground by something or another. They lost touch after high school. Maxwell V. Hammer: Her boss at Hammer Corp, she looks up to him as a sort of bumbling father figure, but she knows in the end he’s only using her.
