With the heat a fading terrible memory of things he wasn’t exactly proud of Lucien was looking for something familiar. Especially now he and Kaden weren’t talking. He didn’t have the man to come home to, didn’t have his teddy bear to sleep with meaning he wasn’t sleeping well. After reading on the bond that had formed between them Lucien understood more of what the elder was going through to a degree, in the fact he’d read the words and knew the things he’d said, or well yelled, at the other had likely made it all worse. Lucien wasn’t good interacting with people normally, usually arrogant and rude by default. He understood empathy, but didn’t know how to convey it.
He wasn’t sure how long he was standing in front of the familiar door. It wasn’t the first time he’d come to it since Aurelius had left. Avery had been there the last couple times and he’d treated the other poorly this time around. Yelled at him, defended his sire against the young alpha who did exactly what Avery said he would yet again. Being wrong wasn’t something Lucien was often in the lab, but outside of it, it felt that’s all he ever was. Maybe if he would have came to the other earlier things wouldn’t have gone like that had.
The knock to the door was soft, it didn’t have to be hard. He knew if Avery was behind the door he’d hear it. He wasn’t sure what the younger knew. If he heard Lucien was no longer just a vampire, but had a feeling he had as it seemed near everyone knew. He reviewed the label on the bottle of blood wine he brought making sure it was a rare and expensive vintage. Bringing his own after the fiasco the last time Avery gave him wine, though it was also a peace offering. He didn’t want to admit Avery was right and part of him still held hope his sire or former sire wold come back, that it really was different this time, but the days had turned to weeks had turned to months and part of him knew it would be years until the man returned if he did. Maybe his interest was gone because of his tainted blood and what he was.
Lucien finally looked up when he heard the door open not sure what he expected, if Avery would let him in, tell him to leave, if he’d say anything at all. “Mr. Thomson.” He formally greeted. “It’s been some time.”
