A Very Deliberate Manel: Examining Suspicion
Hosted as part of the I Never Ask For It week, our first manel invited men to explore, understand, locate themselves within, and respond to the impact of fear and warnings; where on one side it creates an attitude of victim blame, and on another it also positions ‘all men’ as ‘suspect’. How do you feel about being suspect? How are you perpetuating it too, towards other men , in the name of protecting ‘your own’? Do you recognise it? Do you understand it? When you listen in, how do you chose to respond to it?
A Very Deliberate Manel brings men to step in , moving beyond solidarity in tackling sexual and gender based violence. A Very Deliberate Manel creates a space for listening informing/ being informed through personal memory and insight. The event has no audience, only participants. The comprises 28 individuals, 21 men and 7 women. It is audio recorded.
The first manel was hosted at Max Mueller Bhavan / Goethe Institut. Bangalore the 27th September 2016 . Next A Very Deliberate Manel, scheduled for end Feb 2017.
