Me to a friend tonight
Okay: give me the most niche/bottled up/petty rant you have about your favorite media. Can be about ANYTHING
I LOVE YOU OKAY OKAY SO
Psychonauts is a video game releases like 16 years ago about a boy with psychic powers who has to rescue the head of a Psychic Spy Institute (The Psychonauts) from a kidnapper, and he does so by using his powers to (literally) enter people's minds and find out about what they're thinking or if anything is going wrong in their heads, and everyone has different sorta imaginary settings in their heads that represent how they're feeling. and it's literally one of the best games on the actual planet and it's also got mental health stuff and aaaa go play it.
This year, a SEQUEL was released and it's just as good if not better than the first one!!! And I love it so much and could talk forever and they worked with actual psychologists on it and it's super heartwarming and made me happy-cry like twice.
BUT. There's this one character, Cassie O'Pia, who 1000000% has DID and is honestly some of the best DID representation I've ever seen.
You enter her head to help her out, and in there are a whole bunch of different people! Literally dozens of them. They all appear to be made of paper, as the inner world is a massive library. But some of them are more complex than others, some of them don't seem to realize that all the others exist, some of them can move throughout the library and some can't, there are some animals as well as people, it's amazing. They all have different names and appearances and likes and dislikes and all that stuff. In other levels, any characters are clearly projections based on what the person believes about themselves or other people outside their heads. But in this one it's totally different.
There's even a classic Persecutor, called The Librarian, who asks you to find three books, each containing another part of Cassie. All three of these "versions of Cassie" are explained to have had different roles and jobs throughout Cassie's life to protect her. There's Writer Cassie, Counterfeiter Cassie and Teacher Cassie. Librarian Cassie wants to lock them all up, because she sees herself as The Real Cassie and therefore thinks these other versions are harmful. The three other "Cassie versions" are all very distinct, and one of them even has influence over the new parts that are created. Your job is to unite these three other parts to confront Librarian Cassie, and they literally defeat the persecutor by talking to her and listening to her pain and then the four parts fuse together into just Cassie.
It's just. That whole level I was like AAAA DID THIS IS SO CLEARLY DID and honestly it wouldn't even surprise me if it were canon, like I said, DoubleFine (the people behind the game) worked with professional psychologists to implement mental health stuff.
But even if it isn't canon, it is in my heart.
And even without that, the entire game is beautiful and amazing and there's also one of the best-represented gay couples in media and they made me cry and nfjdsjfjksmkf PLAY PSYCHONAUTS.
And then PLAY PSYCHONAUTS 2
(although you don't have to play the first to understand the second)
If we were in the middle of a zombie or any apocalypse, who are three characters (from any show/movie/book) you'd want on your team?
I'd 100% want Ripley from the Alien series, she's just badass as fuck in general.
Idk about the other two... Maybe Luther Hargreeves from Umbrella Academy, just because he's super strong and I feel like that would come in handy in an apocalypse.
Oh I know! Skullduggery Pleasant!! I loved those books as a kid (still love them tbh), and Skullduggery is an immortal wizard skeleton who doesn't need food and can conjure fire, which would probably be pretty helpful 😅
I've gotta stay up all night tonight, so Ask Me Anything! Or just send in pics, or whatever. I just need a distraction to help keep me awake lol
I'll probably reblog some ask games in a while too, but even with that, pretty much anything is fine!
