[PAINTED SKIES] - To her, this visit felt like a dream come true, them all being on the surface again was hard in a way she couldn't put into words without sounding bitter. She'd found some joy in watching her son explore the surface for the first time but it was harder to enjoy it herself, she knows ferno feels the same, yet the prospect of the seeing the beach again for the first time had made her excited on the walk over, She couldn't help herself. She was an aquatic monster after all and while waterfall had provided a small comfort, It paled in comparison to this.
They'd come later in the day, to avoid most of the humans who'd have likely gawked at them, monsters were a spectacle after all. But she couldn't ignore the soft churr as she viewed the waves before her, lapping up the sand even as her fins twitched with each gust of fresh, salty air and after a moment. She could no longer help herself and ran into the waves, diving once she was certain it was deep enough and for a moment, the only thing visible was the soft glow of her bioluminescence as they lit up in the dark water until her head popped out of the water, white hair dripping wet and all four eyes open. A giggly fit of laughter echoing across the beach.
"Oh this is wonderful, thank you for coming with me ferno even if your not a big fan of water, I don't think this would have been as nice to come alone."
Part of it saddened her to acknowledge the fact that even with ferno, she was alone, much like him. She had her son but much like the elementals, they were the last two of their kind but it was one of those things you just. Didn't mention.
He hadn’t minded, really, coming along with her. There was something about the ocean, he thought--something about standing at the edge of something so endlessly massive. He couldn’t get too close to the waves, staying fairly far back along the shoreline, but he liked just looking out on the water. Seeing how far it stretched out, all the way to the horizon and even further, even further. If you followed it far enough, after miles and miles, there were whole other countries, whole other continents.
Living underground for so long, you got used to a very... small world. There wasn’t a corner of Snowdin or Hotland he didn’t know, and honestly, after all this time, even Waterfall. But it was--nice, to get this reminder. That the world was so, so much bigger than the one they’d been confined to for the past few centuries.
And seeing Vita taking it all in? That made it all the sweeter. He couldn’t keep the fond smile from his face as he heard her giddy laughter, watched her dive into the sea. He could see the faintest glimmer of light as she swam about, shining like a brilliant star that had fallen to earth. This was where she belonged, he realized. This was her element.
He wished he could dive in with her. But he was content, just to gather seashells along the shore, and bear witness to her delight.
‘Hey, water’s plenty cool!’ he called back, as he dusted the sand off a mostly scallop shell. ‘Like--you know how people who can’t just dive into lava still think lava’s really cool? Water’s kinda like that for us, I think.’
