Why can't we nominate fics on wattpad? Lots of drarry writers only post on there and this is discrimination.
Wattpad is notorious for hosting stolen works. Last year we only had two nominations for wattpad fics, both of which turned out to be stolen from other writers who had originally posted on ao3. This experience convinced us to exclude wattpad fics from the Drarry Awards.
Why aren’t the authors names/handles listed with the fic names in the voting form?
It's to encourage people to read new fic (rather than fic by authors they're already familiar with) and to reinforce the fact that the awards are about the writing, not the writers
Answering a few asks
These awards seem to bring out the best and worst of fandom. The best is that we (the admins) get to see all the excitment, enthusiasm and creativity of the Drarry fandom. The worst is that we regularly get asks attacking other creators. We will not publish asks that trash talk members of the Drarry fandom. A few of these asks did manage to also ask valid questions, amongst all the vitirol. Here are your answers: 1. We are not going to be doing a lot of research into the fics nominated for the Best New Writer Award. We just don’t have time and we trust the nominated writers to let us know if they’ve been erroneously nominated for that award. 2. Yes, we’ve seen some members of the fandom claim that changes have been made to the awards and no, we don’t know what they are talking about. The format of the awards has remained the same, the role of the admins has remained the same, and we haven’t brought in any measures to exclude writers who are “too popular”. The awards have always been open to writers of all kudos-counts, and they continue to be. 3. We are not going to be contacting nominated writers directly and asking for their consent to be included in the awards. Once again this is an issue of time and resources. If a writer is nominated who does not wish to be we will immediately remove them from the list. Please do check our tag #writers not eligible for nomination before placing your nominations. 4. Yes, there is a chance that only popular fics will win. But that didn’t happen last year. The winners of 2018 were an incredibly diverse group of writers, some of whom had never published in the Drarry fandom before and we are hopeful that this trend will continue for the 2019 awards. Nominations for the 2019 Drarry Awards are open until 20th January 2020
How can you exclude people's votes?? This is very unfair and not what the awards are about!
What’s “unfair” is some people having 5-6 votes per category when the rules clearly state that everyone is allowed maximum 2 votes per category and when 95% of voters are following the rules.
whenever I click the link to vote it says nothing is found
@llap115 was kind enough to explain that Tumblr is having an issue with redirecting users. For now the best option is to copy/paste the plain text link into your browser and navigate to the form that way. Or just wait and see if the problem gets fixed before the 10th.
I'm honestly shocked that no one recommended Evitative by Vichan for this award tho i can guess it may be because it's still not drarry per say (slowest burn ever) but i just wanted to know since I just discovered this how did you choose the nominations and what were the criteria that made them eligible for the awards? I'm honestly excited i was searching for new Drarry fics and this like a big recommendation list thank you!!
Well the awards are only for fics that were completed in 2019, so that’s probably the reason it wasn’t nominated. If you like epic slow burn you’ll find more than enough to keep you happy in the nominations list! The criteria for nominated fics was:
Final publication date in 2019.
Drarry as the main pairing.
Not written by a writer who had abstained from the awards.
Not published on LJ or Wattpad.
The nominations were chosen by anyone who wanted to nominate a fic. All the admins do is check that the fics qualify and format the list. Hopefully we’ll see you nominating next year!
One of the fics nominated in the Best Fluff Fic category, One Last Dance, doesn't really seem to belong there. It includes an MCD (Draco) - even if it's not tagged as such (!) - and I can't really see how it'd fit into that category, really. (If you're aware of the MCD before reading, it's a rather decent Angst fic, though, and would better belong in that category.)
Thank you for flagging the untagged MCD, I’m sure our readers will appreciate the warning.Re. whether a fic fits in a certain category: we’ve decided to leave that up to the nominators to decide where they think a fic is best suited. This has caused some controversy in the past but it’s also opened up some interesting discussions about how fandom language changes and the different assumptions people bring to their fandom experience.
