Answering a few asks
These awards seem to bring out the best and worst of fandom. The best is that we (the admins) get to see all the excitment, enthusiasm and creativity of the Drarry fandom. The worst is that we regularly get asks attacking other creators. We will not publish asks that trash talk members of the Drarry fandom. A few of these asks did manage to also ask valid questions, amongst all the vitirol. Here are your answers: 1. We are not going to be doing a lot of research into the fics nominated for the Best New Writer Award. We just don’t have time and we trust the nominated writers to let us know if they’ve been erroneously nominated for that award. 2. Yes, we’ve seen some members of the fandom claim that changes have been made to the awards and no, we don’t know what they are talking about. The format of the awards has remained the same, the role of the admins has remained the same, and we haven’t brought in any measures to exclude writers who are “too popular”. The awards have always been open to writers of all kudos-counts, and they continue to be. 3. We are not going to be contacting nominated writers directly and asking for their consent to be included in the awards. Once again this is an issue of time and resources. If a writer is nominated who does not wish to be we will immediately remove them from the list. Please do check our tag #writers not eligible for nomination before placing your nominations. 4. Yes, there is a chance that only popular fics will win. But that didn’t happen last year. The winners of 2018 were an incredibly diverse group of writers, some of whom had never published in the Drarry fandom before and we are hopeful that this trend will continue for the 2019 awards. Nominations for the 2019 Drarry Awards are open until 20th January 2020
