The water flips him over and cracks his head into the side of the riverbank, sending a scattering of stars across his vision followed by that odd green flash again, and Sapnap feels his body go limp with pain, no matter how much he tries to force it to move.   He's going to die down here in the freezing darkness surrounded by nothing but water and cold and-   Something grabs his leg.

Something that is not the water around him grabs his leg, then squeezes it tightly.

Sapnap looks down, and screams.

"I'm sorry!" Sapnap is crying in his sleep by now, tiny, miserable sobs between each of his mumbled, desperate words. "I- I don't know what I did wrong, please come back, please don't leave me, please-"

He's having nightmares again. Most of the server has them, nightmares of the Before are a constant part of their lives, vivid, terrifying dreams of something that happened but that drift away after they wake up, the memories slipping out of their fingers like sand.

Granted, Sapnap is the only one who ever talks and cries in his sleep, the rest of them only get one or the other, and a few of them, Dream himself along with Ponk and Bad, occasionally wake up screaming their lungs out.

It's a part of daily life, here but it doesn't make Dream's chest ache any less to hear Sapnap begging and pleading for Dream not to leave him in the middle of the night.

reset!Sam occasionally has the possessive urge to use a paw to swipe at someone and tug them closer to him. This usually freaks reset!Dream out and he doesn't like it. Reset!Sapnap, on the other hand, will gladly curl into reset!Sam's side and let himself be held and desired and kept safe >:3

I think sometimes reset!Sapnap cries at night because his bed is too cold and not touching someone while he's asleep gives him nightmares. He asks to sleep in reset!Dream's bed a lot just to feel safer but eventually he can't anymore and reset!Dream has the better idea of getting him to snuggle in reset!Sam's nest instead, where he can be held and it's warm and where reset!Sam has someone to protect 🥺

idk why I'm having so many reset c!Samnap thoughts lately but I'm imagining both of them at home after an adventure cleaning each other up, because c!Sapnap has a tendency to try to deal with injuries on his own and c!Sam deliberately hides them bc he doesn't feel "worthy" of treatment after something that happened in the Before :(

but c!Sapnap doesn't want c!Sam's soft back to get infected from a raw patch of skin resulting from him not wearing his saddle bag blanket and c!Sam knows that c!Sapnao can't deal with that cut on his leg on his own even though he is Trying To

Sam Creeper hybrid and Sapnap blaze hybrid angst bc they’re two opposing species who can’t come in contact (because Sapnap’s fire will literally kill Sam by setting him off) but they’re in love bc they fell in love sending each other letters and it’s very angsty and pining
