After a busy day of going, well, nowhere I figured we deserved a wine treat and this is a massive wine treat. I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to Hamilton Russell Pinot and this 2013 is decadent and alluring. It might not seem like much of a compliment declaring a wine “the best white wine of the year so far” on 10th January but it is intended to be. The chilly weather has confused my wine radar a little of late so I felt in the mood for an autumnal white tonight. I really must get better at remembering how much I love Grenache.... this is a good one too. A little like a macho Pinot. I’m a confirmed Syrah nut but this is something else.... from one of the first vineyards to plant Syrah in Washington State and made by @savagegracewines - this is elegant and captivating with smoky cherry notes and a hint of charcuterie on the palate. First working week of lockdown done! No kids evicted from the house yet so we’re doing alright. Sometimes you just can’t seem to get the house warm enough when it’s freezing outside. I usually find an Amarone helps in such circumstances (admittedly not a great fix if it’s 8am).... this 2016 Amarone by @cantinadinegrar treads a fine line of being elegantly brutish. Full of raisin and dark fruit notes and a long decadent finish. Felt like a treat night tonight, and a Hamilton Russell Pinot is always a treat.... this 2011 vintage is a classy and seductive wine. Slightly lighter bodied than some of the vintages preceding it but packed full of red fruit and subtle cured meat notes which stay on your palate for yonks.
