all right , so maybe he shouldn’t have drawn his sword at the very sight of her . but she had startled him , and he , who had been perfectly fine just moments earlier , with his back turned and his attention focused on the small vial he was filling at the edge of the stream , wasn’t one to have a death wish . naturally , that had been his immediate reaction . his second was now to lower the tip of his sword to the ground , where it rested lightly as he awkwardly stuffed the glass into the pouch at his chest . so much for calm .
but he could still hear her out . ❛ … sorry . you’re … ❜ well . she was certainly no regular creature . ❛ … not what i expected to see when i turned around . ❜

It's a mild April night on the banks of the Euphrates, several miles from the Sumerian city of Uruk. The starry filament above is clear, its reflection twinkling in the river, and the spring breeze is whispering through the willows and bullrushes. There stands a modest home of pale mud and plaster beside a small field, which has just been ploughed in preparation for planting barley.
The Archangel Michael steps out of the house into the fresh air, where he smells the pungent, distinctly familiar odour of his younger sister carried on the wind. Dread settling in his chest, Michael searches his surroundings for any sign of Azrael, ready to defend the human woman sound asleep in the house, because he knows there is only one reason why Azrael would come to Earth. It's about the small life growing in his wife's womb.
Azrael emerges from the shadows, regarding her older brother with the same apathetic stare she always uses in moments like these. She is decidedly unimpressed with Michael and his recent indiscretions, or rather, enraged. It's made her life rather complicated of late, but now the order has come for her to put an end to Michael's infractions.
"You have put us both in a difficult situation here, Michael," Azrael says, gesturing with her pallid hands towards her brother and his house. "Fortunately, it's come time to bring this catastrophe to a close before the point of no return,"
"Then what is it to be, sister," Michael inquires with as much diplomacy as he can muster.
"I give you a choice. Snuff out the life you've conceived before sunset seven days from now, or I do it for you," Azrael answers.
"What if I chose neither? What if I run?" Michael snaps, anger rising in his voice, divine fury in his eyes.
He knows exactly what is about to happen next as soon as the words leave his mouth. Azrael's silvery eyes flash before she teleports and reappears right in front of him, matching his rage with equal measure. Against one another, they are like a hurricane and a wildfire, both capable of inflicting incredible damage.
"For months, MONTHS, I have delayed Council proceedings against you, yet you have repeatedly refused to return to your post in favour of this continuing this catastrophic mistake," Azrael launches a broadside against her brother, stalking toward him with black robes dragging in the dust behind. "If you want to see your home, if you want to keep your wings, then you will prevent that abomination from ever seeing the light of day. End it, or I will, Michael,"
She sustains her glare before finally vanishing in a wisp of light, leaving Michael alone in the night, contemplating what heart-rending choice to make next. Either he must sacrifice his home and wings, or his wife and child.
@axllyxn Asked Areban: ❝ it does me no good to be good to me now. ❞
Areban’s heart aches for the her, his head cocking to the side as he watches her. He knows too well what that mentality was like, to believe you were beyond help because you were unworth being kind to. But he knows that mindset is largely false, as well. That no one is beyond help.
His ears give a stubborn flick, before twisting so they faced the Harpy before him. His shoulders square, and he nods to himself, snorting softly, “I will be kind rrregardless. It would d-do you less good, to be- be cruel to you.”
