Biography: Growing up on the rough side of Brooklyn turned Bucky into a force to be reckoned with. With both his parents working multiple jobs, he spent most of his childhood on the streets doing what he could to earn money, whether it be running a few errands or delivering messages for gangs, he learnt quickly there was only one was to survive, fighting. He would watch anyone he could to pick up fighting tips. By the time he was 10 he was known as the most ruthless kid on the block, and no one would get into fights with him. It came as a surprise when he chose Steve Rogers to be his best friend. Bucky chose to fight for those who could not.
As soon as the United States officially entered the war, and The Draft was called, Bucky knew his luck, and he knew he would be pulled. He debated just enlisting, but he couldn’t do that to Steve, it wouldn’t have been right to leave him. He hid his Draft forms, but could only do it for so long before he had to get sent overseas. He lied to Steve, pretended he enlisted hoping it would make him leaving easier on Steve. Bucky proved to be top of his class at training camp, earning him the role of Sargent before he even stepped on the battlefield. Despite his natural fighting abilities, he was a great sniper, and his abilities were put to work before he was captured. His time in the trenches forced him to grow up faster than he could have ever imagined, it was here that he learned killing was something that had to be done. His time being a POW was not ideal, being in harsh working conditions and trying to protect his men. They experimented on him until he was finally found by Steve, who then offered to let him join his elite team, The Howling Commandos. Bucky wanted to leave the war, but he couldn’t leave Steve by himself again. Against his better judgement, Bucky agreed.
Everything seemed to be going well until the day of the train. There was nothing that could be done, and Bucky fell. Sitting in the snow in pure agony was worse than he could have ever imagined. Bucky wishes he had just died that day instead of being saved by passing Russian troops. They dragged him to a military base, and he felt like he was back in Azzano. He kept waiting for Steve to rescue him again, but as the torture and days wore on, he realized he was alone. Eventually he gave in, letting them wipe his mind and forget the pain. He was constantly cryogenically frozen, and he watched the world evolve one tiny snippets at a time. No matter what he tried, Bucky couldn’t remember anything about his past, not until he was sent to fight the man on the bridge. It triggered something inside of him, causing him to remember. He acted on his best behavior, hoping to retain the few memories that came back and waited for his time to escape. It took careful planning but he managed to break out and run from the captors he knew for years.
Bucky knew the only option he had was to hide and keep moving. The years of training from the Russians taught him how to keep hidden. He kept going, doing what he could to remember. Eventually his captors found him and attempted to take him back, but he fought before fleeing back to the United States. He had enough of his memories that he tried to seek Steve out, see if Steve wanted anything to do with him. He knew the authorities would be after him, so he made a deal with Shield to keep himself safe, he would tell them what he knew about Hydra, and they would keep him out of jail. Bucky knows it isn’t the best arrangement, but it’s all he’s got. He knows he’s being closely monitored at all times; he can’t so much as take his trash out without someone knowing but he is doing his best. Most days he stays inside his apartment writing down things he remembers, wanting peace in his life. As long as Shield holds up their end of the bargain he intends to lay low, but if not he will seek his vengeance against those who wronged him.
