AN: This drabble had completely been inspired by the song “Brother” by Kodaline and the tragic, that occurred yesterday. I still am shaken about Chester Bennington’s death. Rest in Peace.

Victor is four and he can hardly look after himself, when his parents suddenly come back with a little bundle of cries and giggles. He can’t stand in his place on the second floor and he runs towards his parents as soon as they stepped over the house doorstep.
He is still four when kids on the street spill out the truth of the lacking attention to him. They tell him to forget about his personal attention in his parent’s eyes.
He hates them and tells them to keep silent. They know nothing.
At seven he realized the truthfulness of their words when parents forget to celebrate his birthday when the little girl is fallen down with cold and been taken to the hospital.
He never really forgets or forgives it.
He just never speaks of the said event.
At five she runs around the room and yells about her birthday. Victor has already been fed up with her behavior and struggles with keeping his eyes opened. He has a headache and he wishes she could calm down for a second.
He wants to read a book for his literature class, but she wants his full attention and doesn’t want to fight for it with a book or anything else. Victor is angry and he does what he shouldn’t have done, but it happened – broken barbie doll lies on the floor, while Victor shouts that if she won’t calm down, she will no longer be able to go for a walk with him. She calms down and forgives her brother quickly. She loves him too much.
Victor can’t forget the lying doll and watery eyes.

She's six, when Victor is 10 and when he puts bandages on her knees, smiling wide at her uncontrollable sobbing. Because he knows well enough: her struggles will end once he gives her her favorite candy. Scrapped knees will be forgotten and she will be out of the room, running wildly with the same boys, who treated her badly. Only this time Victor will make sure to make those boys fully aware of the consequences of their pranks.
Next day boys meet her with broken noses and black eyes.
She never connects it with Victor’s battered knuckles.
We smoked cigarettes

Victor is 20 when it happens.
His sister is even younger. She’s 16.
Her teenage years has just started, when their parents, whose marriage had been on edge ever since his sister had been born, came back home after the day with lawyers and announced their divorce.
Shocked as he is, Victor never leaves his sister side. Not when she cuddles to him tightly and he cradle her as if she is a little baby he remembers. She’s crying not understanding why this is going on.
He takes her under his full custody. And he wishes Don Falcone had nothing to do with it.
But Zsasz has already stepped onto his path.
He just wishes it will take her long time to understand that he no longer the man she knows.
We've taken different paths
And travelled different roads
He is 24 and Victor no longer celebrates his birthday.
He doesn’t call on hers.
He doesn’t live long enough to tell her everything he wanted.
Christmas has never been lonelier as she stepped into the morgue and sees the only man she loved through everything lying motionlessly there.
She leaves and never comes back to this place.

Victor works as a killer for Don Falcone and tries to forget that he has a sister.
She has got a new identity and nothing can lead her to him.
He made sure of it.
The memories of cold morgue bed he lied in prevent his every move to change his mind.

She is 24 now. Victor would be 28.
She is growing beautiful and smart and she is already not crying at night, remembering her brother.
She is sure he’s dead.
He keeps close to the shadows in her house, when he visits.
He doesn’t like her fiancé.
He can do nothing to stop her from this marriage.
That’s the first time he regrets his actions.

She turned 26 and she constantly lies, when her soon-to-be-husband asks if she’s okay.
It’s Victor’s 30th birthday and she just found out she’s pregnant.
Her old tattoo burns her ribs. Victor is always with her, even when she can’t see him.
She just wishes he would be there to see his little niece or nephew.
She tells her fiancé she is okay.
She almost believes it herself.

She stumbles into her flat, laughing.
She’s 31 now and has got a little son, who she named after her big brother, who would turn 35.
Little Vic is running around. It’s his birthday. And he just got his first plastic gun. He is running around after his mother and asking about his dad arrival.
He won’t, but Vic doesn’t need to know that on his birthday.
His dad had been abusing his mom for years, but before she got the guts to call the cops, he had been found shot in his head. Twice.
She believes he has finally got what was coming for him.
Victor Zsasz cleans his gun and his hands.
He believes he still is her big brother.
And he had failed her.
She doesn’t need to know what her big brother had become.
Victor almost believes himself on this.
He hasn’t got a heart to stop himself, when he stopped by to watch her from afar stopped in his tracks.
He smiles confusedly, pulls down his jacket and covers his guns as he made his way over to her door.

She still is 31 when she opened her door and all colors left her face as well as the smile she had while playing with her son.
Little Vic has lost his interest in his toy and curiously looking between his mother and unknown man, who look as if he’s about to fall apart crying.
“V-Victor?” She choked out not believing her eyes.
But here he stands. Her brother who she buried long time ago.
Black jacket looks out of place, as well as the man himself.
Little Vic takes his hand and carries him inside his house.
It’s his birthday and he wants this strange man to come inside.
He never noticed strange looking big man, watching them from afar in the shadows.
Butch found Victor Zsasz’s weak point.
He doesn’t want to step out of his revenge line.
And if we hit on troubled water

Zsasz is 35 when he finally celebrates his birthday after a big break.
He is sitting alongside his sister and his nephew, who is funny and charming and remind him so much of his little sibling, who turned into a good woman.
He wished he stepped up into her life sooner.
And we'll be carrying each other
Until we say goodbye on our dying day
He just turned 36 when she stands between him and a bullet.
She is 32 when she sees her brother being on the other end of the pointing gun.
Little Vic is too little to realize why his uncle crying and why his mum is still lying in bed.
He is too young when his uncle put on his small jacked and black trousers on him.
And he definitely too small to realize why the old man asks him to throw some dirt on his mother’s new home.
He is falling asleep in his uncle’s arm, feeling water on his hands that his uncle cleared for him.
Victor cries and his mind refuse to keep up with the truth.
He knows he needs to keep himself together, for his nephew who he will be raising.
He seek help, Don Falcone could provide.
Don Falcone is by his side.
Victor looks at the little guy in his hands.
He wished he stepped up into her life sooner.
He wished he didn’t step back up into her life at all.

“I can taste your lies, you know?” Victor said, as he got himself up from the bed on his elbows. Sweat covered his pale chest as his gaze was following your quick movements, never leaving your figure.
You shrugged his statement off and continued to get dressed. Dark silky sheets were inviting, just like the body that were lying in these sheets. But you knew you could not let yourself stay. You’ve already spent too much time here. Much more than was asked for.
“Don’t make it any harder, Zsasz. You know the rules.” You hissed as you became annoyed with his hints. And this glass, you finally took in your hand was perfect object to the act you performed just a second later.
“Baby, it was you who were willing to get down on your knees. Did you forget it?” He sassed, smirking as you threw the glass you were holding towards him, aiming at his head.
You missed and his laughter filled the room. It was husky and deep, but comforting in some strange way.
You looked up at the man, who still was lying in bed and before he could say any other nonsense, you walked out of the door, still hearing his laughter. Which made you cringe a small smile.
The dark night filled air with smoke; and flames were evident in the calm night sky. It erupted into thousands of red flames, changing its colors to the one of blood.
Technically, your night has just begun and you had no intentions on stopping it. Putting on your coat over your slightly exposing dress, you took off towards the exit, taking a bag from the wardrobe that has never been closed.
You closed your eyes, took a deep breath and walked out of the door, leaving your usual, absolutely plain self over there, behind closed doors. No one needed to know what you were before the beginning of the night. You had your reasons and that was enough. Because at night you were no more than another passing face: similar to million others; familiar, but as plain as water. You would walk by a person, they would stare at you, but the moment they lost eye contact, they would never be able to recall your face or anything for that matter.
You were a good person once and you wanted the attention every person desires. But you got none. You flew through the life unnoticed and that devastated you, destroying the gentle soul in the process, turning your once small fire of anger into the massive one, no one could tame.
That’s when you decided that enough was enough and you decided you deserved everything you desired. And that meant you needed help. Help came, but not in a friendly way.
You were a hooker. What you were before the night was no longer mattering. Because once the night has started – you were one and only call girl. Not the plain self you were during the day.
The night became darker as your figure disappeared in it, shoe clattering evidently heard in the distance.

You heard the distance voice mumbling something, as you turned away from the noise you had no desire to hear.
“You were moaning my name in your sleep, care to explain?” You heard the voice repeated louder and that was the first thing you heard as you completely came to your senses, feeling cold creeping its way under your skin. You tried to find your blanket, but it was nowhere to be found and that made you open your eyes and shocked you sat up, choked on your angry speech.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” You caught out, trying to keep your composure. You were not ready to the sight you saw uncovering before your eyes.
Victor Zsasz, who was not supposed to know where you lived or who you really were, was eating your vanilla ice-cream, while reading through your passport and your lawyer license.
“I knew you were no ordinary hooker. But I didn’t know I fucked a lawyer who worked for GCPD. It’s like fucking the whole system itself.” He chuckled and laughed maniacally, as he moved closer, putting his gloves on. “Darling, when were you gonna say you were spying on me?” He mocked as he moved closer and you finally saw the metal glint in his right hand. The Knife.
You took a deep breath and crawled up the bed, meeting the headboard with your back.
“I didn’t do anything, Zsasz!” You murmured, fixing your eyes on the knife before you. Your shaken state was clearly visible as your hands were trembling slightly. But sudden surge of adrenaline took the best of you and you did the dumbest thing you could – grabbing Victor’s hand, gripping it with all your strength, not noticing the knife slowly going into your skin, destroying it’s clear surface. “I wasn’t doing anything to destroy your reputation!” You hissed and before he could say anything else, you continued. “You’ve been destroying it yourself by sleeping with hooker!”
“How did you, love, become so violent?” Victor raised his non-existent eyebrow in silent question, not moving his eyes from your hand. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, tracing Victor’s gaze and stopping as you saw your hands covered in red. You felt your throat closing off your breathing ability and next thing you remembered was the same hands that had hold the knife, which now was holding your state.
Coming back to your senses was not the best experience you’ve got in your life. Your head throbbed and you couldn’t feel your hands. Looking down you found yourself being comfortably placed on your bed and your hands being bandaged skillfully, no drop of blood visible on them.
“Everything was so sweet until you tried to kill me.” You husky whispered watching Victor gaining new bandages from your first-aid-kit.
“Should I remind you exactly who grabbed the knife without realizing it?” He smirked as he once again changed your bandages, not letting you see injures.
You laughed and threw your head deeper into the pillow, letting yourself relax. But the next words made you open your eyes and stare at the man with wide eyes.
“I took care of your debt. You no longer need to do what you’ve been doing.”
“Wh-what?” You stuttered looking at Victor, not fully realizing what he’d said. “What did you do?”
“Your debt. It’s canceled due to its owner sudden disappearance.” You opened your mouth to say something, when Victor’s finger silenced you. “I am not done yet. If I see you at night again… Let’s say your family will no longer have their sunshine. Is that clear?” He said in stern voice and you just nodded not being able to speak. “And forget about me being anywhere near you.”
He got up, putting first-aid-kit near you and turned towards the exit.
“Victor, wait.” He looked half-side back and raised his brow in question once again.
“Thank you.”
He nodded and walked out the door, not once looking back.

Never in his life did he know he would find himself in an art gallery.
Not like he was uneducated fool, he wasn't, he just didn't have a need to visit any places that would not be required by his work. More to say art galleries.
But if there was one thing Victor took seriously, that was promises. He rarely gave one, but once he’s given it, he would never take it back or break it.
He would always keep them; even when they were given in compromising situations.
You've been lying in his bed, tangled up in sheets, trying to catch your breaths after the hell of a sex you've had, when you asked Victor if he would accompanied you to the grand opening night of newest art collection, so you wouldn't have to ask one of your friends again; being too lost in his pleasure he nodded his head before his mind could caught up with what exactly you've been suggesting.
You knew Victor too well and even asked him again once you've got the answer you weren't really used to hear: usually you've been gently refused of any kind of activities other couples were up to. Because, let's be honest: Victor was not a usual boyfriend. So you asked him again, after such an unexpected outcome and he said he would come.
So now, standing in a dimly lit corridor and nervously waggling with his tie, Victor felt like a fool. He was so wrapped up in this feeling of being lost that he couldn't see you, slowly walking up to him. High heels and the tight red dress you've chosen have been greatly showing your body off; making all the boys stop and stare as you walked, not noticing anyone but the nervous man in the dark end of corridor.
You were not sure if he would really come, so you’ve been surprised, but happy to see him there none the less. Grinning from ear to ear, you wrapped your arms around Victor's shoulders, embracing him from behind, kissing his neck and feeling slight shiver running down his body.
"What took you so long?" You whispered in his ear, moving your arms down and wrapping them around his torso.
"Didn't want to come." He mumbled ever so quietly you weren't sure you heard correctly.
"Then why did you come?" You asked, as you unwrapped your hands and took a step back, as Victor turned around, not meeting your studying gaze. "You could have easily avoided this!" You asked, studying the man in front of you and readying yourself for letting him go without being seen here at all.
"I made a promise. The one I couldn't break" he replied, watching you from under his eyelids. He didn’t like what he saw even for one bit. The sight of a happy woman was completely gone now: your lips were slightly trembling and water was slowly clouding your gaze, threatening to spill. And he was the one who caused such emotions to show up.
“Then you are no longer having a need to keep it, Zsasz. Go, please just go, before I decide I really need you here.” You spit, turning on your heels and walking off into the deepest of the gallery. Not turning your head for once to make sure you’ve been followed. Because you weren’t.
After a small bickering you went down towards the bar to get yourself something to make you feel happier than you’ve felt at the moment. You’ve been having quite a good time especially after some man decided to walk around the gallery with you, making a move on you.
You’ve been feeling out of place and you’ve been feeling sadness floating within your system. Probably that’s why at some point you’ve found yourself smiling gently at the man, who was trying his best to make you smile, by telling you the most embarrassing and foolish stories you’ve ever heard.
You’ve been so wrapped up in conversation and focused on not letting yourself feel sadness and loneliness, that you’ve missed the moment your new friend had been thrown to the floor and beaten heavily by such a familiar marked hands. Much to your surprise.
Victor has never really left the gallery – he tried; he even stepped out of the building, but the vision of your watering eyes had been haunting him, so he smoked and went back only to find you with some man, whose intentions were so clear, it took Victor’s all will to not kill him at the spot.
But as time flew by and the said man was giving your more and more alcohol to drink, while his hand slowly led its way to your back, Victor snapped.
“Victor?!” You screamed as the first drop of blood found its way onto your dress. “Victor, stop!” You tried to get Victor off the poor man, but only ended up flaming up his rage, which ended up in you taking the bottle from the table and breaking it, pointing it’s shattered head into Victor’s direction. “I swear to God! Another friction and you will end up with a new scar, Zsasz!”
“Do you think I’m scared of a woman?” Victor growled, as he looked away from the man and smirked at your trembling form. “Get to the car, darling. We are leaving.” He said in a stern voice, looking around the room to see if anyone was about to argue with him. Bravery wasn’t something that could be easily found.
“I am not gonna go anywhere, Victor.” You shook your head and pressed the shattered glass to Victor’s neck. “Move away. Slowly, please. I do not have any wish to harm you.”
Victor slowly got up and turned, quickly punching the glass out of your hands, making you gasp as he lift you by your knees and place you on his shoulder, careful not to harm you in any way. “Why no one ever listens?” He groaned as he was making his way out of the building once more.
“I just wanna take you home, darling.” He whispered as he carefully placed you on the front seat and buckled you up, taking a look on your frown face. As soon as he got into the car himself, he started the engine and drove away towards the exit of the town. His flat didn’t seem like a place to wake up into. But his small cabin in the wood did seem the right one.
“I never felt special.” You cried out in hushed mumbling, as the alcohol finally hit your system, turning you into sobbing mess. The makeup was ruined and now was quickly fading with tears. “Never, Victor. And I feel sick and tired of always asking myself the same questions. You said you loved me on more than one occasion. But I feel nothing.” You whispered, making Victor close his eyes for a second and take a deep breath. He wasn’t ready for such conversation, but his wishes were no longer relevant or important.
“I am tired of always asking myself the same question all over again: are you ever going to tell him?” He looked at you and as he was about to ask what you were talking about, you opened your mouth and continued your speech. “I love you. Since the moment you walked into my life with those stupid flowers. And your every word and even breath… It makes me wanna be all yours.” You whispered, not giving a damn about his ability to hear your hidden feelings. “But you never did anything. Yes, you said you loved me, but every time I asked you to come somewhere with me – you would refuse…” Victor wanted to say something, but your never gave him the opportunity. “If you love somebody, better tell them while they're here. So I am saying: I love you. But I bought one-way ticket to Starling city, Victor.”
He opened his eyes in shock and only could say one word: “What?”
You never replied him. You slowly started to drift off to sleep and the last thing he heard you saying - was your drunk blurred whisper.
