WHY is vedic astrology even more frustrating than tropical.

Why are there people arguing on what Ayanamsa is correct, specifically galactic center mid-mula Ayanamsa which places my moon in Scorpio. (AND IN THE 2ND HOUSE instead of the 1st using whole sign)

Like hell no????? You’re telling me my moon isn’t in my lagna? Like people have NOT ever described me as everything the vedic texts described a moon in lagna person as?….

And idek what’s right and what isn’t. 2nd house is still an active house in my birth chart whatsoever since with WS my sun is there, and with placidus, equal house, topocentric its mercury mars and rahu.

First it was the house systems stressing me out but now i’m so irritated by how people are saying Lahiri is inaccurate and are giving credit to Galactic center mid mula Ayanamsa, regards some people here on tumblr……

I read about the history of the two and i’m still fucking confused because how do we know what is real and what isn’t? And why are they comparing celebrities appearances and proving that the “next nakshatra” fits the person more? I have an ex-friend who has Anuradha moon with Lahiri, but Jyeshta with mid-mula Ayanamsa. She looks exactly like an Anuradha person i’m sorry. (She always looked like chappell roan to me) It’s just not possible!

Hey! So, many have fallen in love with the way Vedic astrology can be applied to understand appearance & symbolism in peoples' lives, and it constantly amazes me how much it makes sense. People have done a lot of phenomenal work analysing appearance & peoples' lives through Nakshatras, but I noticed that in a lot of these studies and compilations, there will be a couple of people included who kinda- don't fit? I've since learnt that it seems almost every time someone deviates from the patterns despite seemingly having the same placements; they are in fact a different Nakshatra when Applying Mid-Mula Galactic Center Ayanamsa. As always, I have no desire to pressure anyone else into using the same calculation, it's a personal journey- but I do aim to highlight the patterns I've seen 🩵

In this post I'm focusing on Vishakha natives- specifically Vishakha women; but you'll find a lot of these things apply to Vishakha men too anyway.

Vishakha Nakshatra is the Tiger yoni 🐅 As we know, tigers are fierce, they are known to be some of the strongest, fastest animals in the jungle & natives to Vishakha reflect that. Vishakha is known as 'the star of purpose'. Natives can feel an intense, passionate drive to fulfil a vision, or a sense of destiny. Being Jupiter ruled (the planet of expansion, fame, fortune, wisdom) & ruled by the powerful Vedic God, Indra 'King of the Gods'; Vishakha natives find themselves in a prime energetic position to have major influence . Once they find their footing in their career/goal, they can have major success and incredible power. Vishakha shines brightly in its courage, strength, power and influence.

You'll notice in the examples below, the intense focus & determined look in the eyes of Vishakha natives- like a tiger ready to pounce lol.

I've noticed Vishakha women (likely due to the Tiger yoni) often enjoy leopard or tiger print, so I've shown that in my examples. Also; I acknowledge that using examples who've had work done can be misleading so I've tried to balance it out!

Three of the women in this post are Swati Nakshatra in Lahiri- namely Priscilla, Kylie & Kendall; and I wanted to show them alongside other Vishakha ladies to demonstrate the significance of considering Mid-Mula Galactic Center ayanamsa.

𝓟𝓻𝓲𝓼𝓬𝓲𝓵𝓵𝓪 𝓟𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓵𝓮𝔂 - 𝓜𝓸𝓸𝓷 𝓲𝓷 𝓥𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓴𝓱𝓪 (Swati in Lahiri) I've seen a strong theme of Vishakha women being known for their marriage. In fact, despite Vishakha & Jupiter's independent determined nature, Vishakha natives can intensely prioritise their marriage (Swati in contrast is loving, but not as enthused by the thought of being 'tied down'). The determination can be channelled into doing everything possible to make their marriages and other partnerships work out. Vishakha's connection to marriage is seen through its symbol being 'a triumphant archway'; directly related to the decorative archways we see in marriage celebrations & victory ceremonies.

While she of course had her own vibrant career; Priscilla was and still is especially famous for her marriage to Elvis. The most famous photos of her being her gorgeous self on their wedding day. It is said that Vishakha natives can get married young, which is true of Priscilla. Vishakha women often end up being the provider in partnerships- literally or emotionally. She is famous for her beauty also which can be a theme with Vishakha since it is mostly in sidereal Libra- associated with beauty, love, partnerships, etc.

𝓛𝓪𝓷𝓪 𝓓𝓮𝓵 𝓡𝓮𝔂 - 𝓥𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓴𝓱𝓪 𝓐𝓼𝓬𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓪𝓷𝓽 Lana is another Vishakha woman who gives it all in relationships and we hear of this through her music. She also has that incredibly wide breadth of influence we see with Jupiter Nakshatras (especially Vishakha)- there are a lot of people who have achieved a level of fame, but having influence over the people to the point that you are worshipped is a different thing; and Lana has it. Vishakha's Shakti, meaning its power, is to achieve. The abundance this woman has in the way of creativity, wealth, power, intelligence, etc. is very Vishakha- Vishakha is directly associated with the word victory etymology-wise too.

Lana worked hard for years pursuing her goals in music; and of course that hard work came to fruition.

𝓚𝔂𝓵𝓲𝓮 𝓙𝓮𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓻 - 𝓥𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓴𝓱𝓪 𝓜𝓸𝓸𝓷 (Swati in Lahiri). I have seen research floating around on how Vishakha natives can often have a 'glow up' of sorts where they really take charge of their image and actively choose to embody an extremely seductive energy. Achieving magnetic power through their appearance. This is seen in Kylie's famous 'reinvention'. Again, she radiates this intensity, purpose, is very business driven etc. Whilst Swati radiates this airy sweetness, Vishakha radiates Lord Indra & Jupiter's sheer sense power & easily inspires a sense of worship from people.

𝓚𝓪𝓽𝔂 𝓟𝓮𝓻𝓻𝔂 - 𝓜𝓸𝓸𝓷 𝓲𝓷 𝓥𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓴𝓱𝓪 & 𝓢𝓽𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓲𝓾𝓶 (Swati Sun however- but notice how she has the more 'air-y' quality that the others don't due to this placement?) Katy Perry is another star who in her 'prime time' of fame was more than just another famous person; she had hugeee influence the way we see in Vishakha. Little girls everywhere were singing her songs & she was inescapable on the radio (not that that's a bad thing lol, her songs are vibes). Her song 'roar' and the video to it is incredibly Vishakha but also Swati- the song is in essence about getting back up on your feet and being determined even when someone knocks you down. I talked about in this write-up how in Swati there is a direct theme of natives being discouraged and needing to have faith in themselves and remember their gifts. In Vishakha there is a full embodiment of this power.

Aside from that, of course the song being called 'Roar' & the tiger/leopard/jungle imagery is as Vishakha as it gets!

𝓑𝓮𝔂𝓸𝓷𝓬𝓮 - 𝓜𝓸𝓸𝓷 𝓲𝓷 𝓥𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓴𝓱𝓪 I confess, I really don't know much about Beyonce but I do know that she's got an incredible amount of influence! She is often referred to as the 'Queen'; which makes direct sense since Vishakha's ruler (Indra) is the king of the gods, so there is this theme of Vishakha energy being regarded as godly again. She is known for her incredibly powerful vocals too which we see a lot in Jupiter Nakshatras, Jupiter ruling the throat & the element of 'sound'. Beyonce and her marriage to Jay-Z is very famous, them both being artists in the public eye.

𝓚𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓙𝓮𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓻, 𝓥𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓴𝓱𝓪 𝓢𝓾𝓷 (Swati in Lahiri) - side note that I've noticed all of the Kardashian sisters have a strong Tiger yoni Nakshatra in their chart with the exception of Kourtney. Kim with Chitra Sun & Mercury in Vishakha as her chart ruler, Kylie with Vishakha Moon, Kendall with Vishakha Sun, Khloe with Vishakha Mars ruling her Sun in Dhanishta & Moon in Mrigasira... I don't know much about the Kardashians aside from what's obvious in the media, but I found this so interesting and telling of the power and influence prominent Vishakha/tiger yoni natives can fall into. Of course, Kendall really embodies Vishakha appearance-wise too.

Something cool to think about is that while Vishakha is so intimately connected to themes of beauty, power, infIuence, achievement, success & abundance, it is interestingly a Mleccha nakshatra; meaning 'outcaste'. As one can deduct from the name, Mleccha nakshatras are associated with 'shunning' and being a social pariah, even being regarded as animalistic. Mleccha Nakshatras deviate from the crowd in some way, they make a statement. It makes sense that a Mleccha Nakshatra be strongly associated with fame & influence, since those who are truly influential must be doing something original, or 'different' to what's already been seen/done. Even if that simply means being controversial. I've seen themes of Mleccha heavy people being shamed for their more 'outside the box' nature, and then getting their 'revenge' in a sense, later gaining extreme abundance due to that very same quality they were initially outcasted for.

I'll have to do a more formal/in depth write up on Vishakha sometime, this was more of a casual post to highlight the ayanamsa discrepancy and some connections.

🌌 Why your Western Chart is only Half the Story

I’ve spent a lot of time looking at why some Western placements just don't "look" like the person. We’ve been told we have to choose between the Tropical Zodiac (the seasons) and the Sidereal Zodiac (the stars).

But there is a third way: Tropical Signs + Sidereal Nakshatras.

1. The Mechanic: Solar vs. Stellar

Tropical Signs (The Software): Based on the Earth/Sun relationship. This represents your Psychological Orientation—your "Operating System" and how you process the world.

Nakshatras (The Hardware): Based on the actual stars. This represents your Substance— your physical body, and your primal magnetism.

2. The Problem of Precession

2,000 years ago, the Tropical 0° Aries aligned with the start of the Ashwini Nakshatra. Because of the Precession of the Equinoxes, the Tropical grid "slides" backward against the stars at a rate of about 1° every 72 years.

Currently, the offset (the Ayanamsa) is roughly 24°.

This means the "Signs" (which govern your psychological orientation) have detached from the "Nakshatras" (which govern your physical manifestation and karmic fruit).

3. The "Hardware vs. Software" Case Study

Let’s use my Venus at 11° Gemini as the example.

• The Tropical Placement: 11° Gemini. In my social "seasonal environment," I value wit, variety, and intellectual chemistry. Love is a meeting of the minds.

• The Math: How to do it without a calculator:

1. Slide back 11 degrees: This brings you to 0° Gemini (the very start of the sign).

2. Slide back the remaining 13 degrees: (24 - 11 = 13). This takes you into the previous sign, Taurus.

3. The Result: 30° (the end of Taurus) minus 13° = 17° Taurus.

The Result: I have a Gemini relational style (chatty, curious, witty) but a Rohini physical essence (sensual, lush, and earthy).

🛠️ The "Physical Star" Cheat Sheet

How to use: Take any planet in your Western (Tropical) chart and subtract 24°. The resulting sign and degree is the "Physical Star" (Nakshatra) that your planet was actually touching at birth.

(Note: These are just the most common "mid-sign" stars. If your degree isn't here, you're likely touching the stars of the sign right before yours!)

💡 The Bottom Line

Most of us start with Western astrology, and it’s brilliant for psychological mapping. But there is often a "physicality gap"—a disconnect between the Tropical sign descriptions and our actual biological or karmic reality.

I’ve spent time looking at the math of Precession, and the answer isn't "choosing a side." It’s acknowledging that we are a two-layer system.

In simple terms, an ayanamsa (अयनांश) is the reference point used in sidereal (Vedic) astrology to align the zodiac with the actual stars. Different ayanamsas change how we measure and interpret it the stars and nakshatras.

I personally use: Lahiri Ayanamsa. Lahiri is the most widely used and standardized ayanamsa in Vedic astrology. It’s the official ayanamsa used in India and is the foundation of most classical Jyotish texts and techniques.

I personally use Lahiri because: I’ve studied it in depth, my predictive work is rooted in Parashari Jyotish and Krishnamurti (KP) astrology, it’s the most consistent for day-to-day life, timing, and practical interpretation in my opinion. For beginners especially, Lahiri is the best place to start because it gives a stable, commonly accepted framework.

There are other ayanamsas (Galactic Center/Mula-based, Raman, Yukteshwar, etc.), and I’ve studied those as well. I don’t use them for everyday readings, but they can be very useful when exploring spiritual themes, digging into psychological or karmic layers, researching specific questions rather than lived reality

So for me, Lahiri is the practical, lived experience, other ayanamsas come in for specialized lenses for deeper inquiry. These just answer different kinds of questions, and not are better than one another. Say railroads, sea ports, highways, different ways to reach the destination, that's that.

If you’re new to Vedic astrology, I’d always recommend learning one system well (like Lahiri) before experimenting with others.

Do you use the tropical signs or sidereal signs for the mid galactic center ayanamsa?

Hey! To my knowledge, Ernst Wilhelm (the developer of Mid-Mula Galactic Center) does use the Tropical signs.

Me personally? I really use both & tend to see both playing out in different ways, truly.

When I think of the Nakshatras, I usually relate their core qualities to the sidereal zodiac off the top of my head.

Eg. I associate Hasta's precise and calculated nature with Sidereal Virgo.

I associate Jyeshta with Sidereal Scorpio- intense, observant, passionate.

Then, I flip my perspective to the Tropical zodiac and everything still makes complete sense-

Hasta being in Libra? Yeah, checks out with the social charm, sense of precision/or 'balance', etc.

Jyeshta being in Sagittarius? Makes sense given the resourcefulness, adventurous and playful/witty nature, the desire of Jyeshta to seek out meaning and leave their comfort zone to do that.

So yeah, I kinda use both interchangeably! 🤍

My Journey With Ayanamsa

It feels fitting that my first astrological post be a write up on one of my most profound astrological journeys. I started studying astrology avidly when I was in my teens, and soon discovered the magic of Vedic Astrology & Nakshatras .

Learning of the Nakshatras and the beauty of what they have to offer opened up a world of knowledge and patterns that feel almost criminal to be aware of. I mean, no amount of knowledge or spirituality can be a 'cheat code' to bypass enduring and navigating Earthly life, but it just shocks me the pure transparency of the cosmic patterns found applying Vedic astrology. I mean, Tropical astrology without Nakshatras was already magical to explore, but Nakshatras took the cake haha.

I noticed very early on that Lahiri Ayanamsa didn't seem accurate, but at the time I didn't know about Ayanamsa and was driving myself utterly mad trying to understand why not only my own, but other charts I'd observed seemed to off by at least a couple of degrees.

I am someone who is born at the end of a Nakshatra. The more I delved into Nakshatras, the more it became clear that somehow, I belonged to the latter Lunar Mansion to the one that showed up in many calculations.

Everything about me (and others who had the same dilemma), down to my personality, upbringing, mannerisms, art, outfit choices and even my physical appearance aligned with the prospect of calculations being altered at least a couple of degrees.

A lot of people told me that maybe some people are just anomalies, I even started theorising that maybe some peoples' spirits didn't inhabit their body until a couple of hours after birth (lol), but that was me clutching at straws- also, the ascendant would change too much if were the case & it were a birth time issue.

Eventually I discovered Ayanamsa, and I realised, I wasn't crazy!

I learnt that Lahiri Ayanamsa was the most commonly used Nakshatra only because it was the one selected by the Indian government. They needed one consistent, passable Ayanamsa to settle confusions & standardize dates for various celebrations.

The Ayanamsa was created by a Mathematician with little knowledge of astrology. There was just an urgent need to pick at least one definitive calculation irrespective of whether it was necessarily the most accurate. I mean, I'm sure they would've wanted it to be accurate too, but that wasn't the main goal.

I am quoting renowned Vedic astrologer, Ernst Wilhelm on this- but even NC Lahiri- the creator of Lahiri later admitted his own calculation was flawed, and noted that if he could go back in time he would have altered the Ayanamsa by a few degrees.

Before Lahiri Ayanamsa, the most commonly followed Ayanamsa were Revati based ayanamsas (True Revati, Usha/Shashi, Hipparchus, Sassanian).

Ernst Wilhelm devoted extensive time, observation, testing and intuitive understanding to cleverly creating his own Ayanamsa which ever since I discovered it, makes a world of sense to me. So many things in both my own chart & others' just clicked. There were a lot of inconsistencies I used to explain away by being like 'hmm it must be their d9' or 'huh, I guess their other placements are just stronger than that one'. I found that a lot of these things that didn't quite make sense were naturally rectified by using Ernst's Ayanamsa.

Before finding Ernst Wilhelm's Dhruva Galactic Center (I can thank @makingspiritualityreal for my stumbling across it on tumblr, thankyou for sharing your knowledge lovely!! ♡), I used Raman Ayanamsa. I wasn't certain it was the absolute best one, but it did seem to rectify a lot of the issues I was coming across- however there were many instances where I would for example; see and feel the influence of a transit a little bit before it occurred even using Raman calculations. So, I did suspect the degrees should be a little further forward, and Dhruva Galactic Center perfectly aligns with that.

The intuitive line of thought behind Wilhelm's Ayanamsa is also awesome! The concept that the 'correct' Ayanamsa would be based on the Galactic Center- the heart of our galaxy- which lies in the very middle of Mula, 'the root' 'the truth'... it just makes too much sense!

Since Ernst Wilhelm's Ayanamsa is only accessible through his Kala astrology software, I've been using Usha/Shashi Ayanamsa on Astroseek since it is ever so slightly different, but almost the same in value to Dhruva Galactic Center. EDIT: @bdandelion informed me that there actually is an Astroseek Ayanamsa called 'Galactic Center Mid-Mula' that is essentially the same as Ernst Wilhelm's Ayanamsa! I'm not sure how I missed this, I think I just got confused haha, but how exciting!!

I am and always will keep an open mind when it comes to Ayanamsa and all astrological things; if I closed off my perception because one guy said one thing, I would not know even half of the things I know, but for now, that is my story/journey with Ayanamsa :)

I'm so grateful to know what I know, because I spent a good year of my life (when I should've been focusing in school among other things, lol) frantically trying to understand why the astrology I loved didn't seem to make mathematical sense, why some people and placements weren't fitting. To me, this has been a big test of my faith in my own intuition. I knew something was up, and I did think I was going mad for a while, but I followed that trail and found a wealth of knowledge I am blessed to have.

To be clear, I have no desire to force other people to follow the same calculation- I understand it would also be jarring for people. It would shift quite a lot of things for some people and all, but for what it's worth, I think part of being a good astrologer is keeping that open mind and heart to potential new information. Like with science- keep an open mind, entertain every idea, and don't fully latch onto something until you have sufficient reason to believe it!

Do you use Vault of The Heavens? 👁️

not really, I have once or twice before, but I don't see a reason to. Vault of the Heavens uses Ernst Wilhelm's Ayanamsa, but you can simply use AstroSeek & select that same Ayanamsa (Mid-Mula Galactic Center AKA Dhruva Galactic Center) when adjusting the settings. AstroSeek provides means to see aspects, transit charts, synastry charts, outer planets, astroids if you want, divisional charts, dashas, etc. very easily.

Vault of the Heavens is cool too, but it's limited in options and I personally enjoy looking at charts in the wheel format- it's a good way to observe visual connections and notice the shapes formed between aspects (eg. noticing a grand trine, visualising how the energy in a chart is interacting between planets)

Ooh plus in AstroSeek you can save charts to your database which can really come in handy, especially for saving family & loved ones' charts or charts that you always come back to! 💟

It'd be cool to have one of the professional astrology softwares since they have more features unique to Vedic astrology (Shadbala for example) but AstroSeek still does the job pretty well 👍🏼🤍
