Here is a short background of the brand; His & Hers Jams started in March 2013 with the aim of targeting a specific audience. Their target is:
-Young people in general from every sphere who are hungering for an alternative form of entertainment exemplified by our sessions. ARTLOVERS
- Creative industry players who are in the creative media, creative directors, accountants, film industry and also the ones in the music industry. OUR ARTISTS.
- Media workers, journalists and independent writers who are members of the township organic funk movement, as well as those who will be covering the developments of the project.
- The provincial and international tourist market.
The past decade has been characterized by the growth of alternative entertainment formats previously unheard of in the Jozi scene, particularly when it comes to younger generation of entertainment consumers. Hip- hop, Organic Soul, Funky Jazz and Poetry have undoubtedly added an extra flavour in the entertainment diet of urban youth. Artists such as Khethi and Her Afro Twists, Brother Moves On, Ipande Core, Urban Village, The Fridge, The Muffinz Rebirth and Planet Lindela represent this new breed of young artists whose musical and lyrical expressions have redefined quality entertainment.
The energy that comes with such quality entertainment creates a vital space required to celebrate life beyond the stage. Such a phenomenon has managed to manifest itself in the growing demand for alternative entertainment for the upwardly mobile youth. We perceive this as an indication of not only maturity in young people’s preferences of entertainment, but also an indication of how critical cultural expressions are for the holistic development our society, including young people. It is in this light that we conceived the idea of utilizing such a space for the economic empowerment and skills exchange activities, by combining arts development and business elements in a form of HIS AND HERS JAM SESSIONS.
Tshidiso Setshogwe, he is one of the members of the collective His & Hers Jams, he was jamming to the sounds of Urban Village the band which was performing on the 29 November 2015.
