enxredis asked: Hello, master Gimli!! How do you fare today?
I fare rather well, Lady Liriel. How goes you?
⊰ ❈ ⊱ — The young lady smiled.
❝ Rather good as well, m’lord. I wanted to thank you for your great help in the woods... I would probably be still walking around if it was not for you. Here, please accept this gift. ❞
Technically, I was supposed to answer with just “Yes” or “No”
... Well, it’s not like it’ll be the end of the world.
Have you ever killed someone and regretted it?
“Actually, yes,” the deformed Orc-Lieutenant answered. Of course, he wouldn’t go into exact details on what it was.

“I thought you said you could handle this journey?” The elder dwarf gave a coy grin towards the other, who was starting to slow down in pace. “We’re almost to the borders of The Shire, so it won’t be long now.” For some years now, Balin made the trip to these lands on occasion to visit his dear friend and the Shirefolk. Sometimes, the others from the old Company would come with him, but this was a first for Gimli to venture with him here.
✉ //Hello there! Had to say hi to Balin.

Gimli son of Glóin,
I don’t know how you come to find this letter or when, but I presume that it was discovered by my brother upon news of my passing. Lets hope that is not the case and that I have returned from Khazad-dûm by this time, drinking and feasting with our families to celebrate our fortuitous return.
You and many others have quite loudly voiced your opinion towards our expedition. I know you hold great concern considering your own uncle is joining us as well. You have every right to be, for it does indeed seem as if we’re journeying straight to our own graves. Óin and I have discussed this for years now, and we know of every risks. Why do we choose to go on this mad quest then? Well, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve journeyed for such a grand task.
Truthfully, we’re old warriors. Ones that can never escape the memories of past battles and faces of those lost. The battle at Khazad-dûm still haunts us to this day, so we must go face those ghosts of our past. There were many that were never buried properly or identified back then and we feel to honor those that gave for a home we could not reclaim. We will try, though it may be a bleak chance, to get it back. All so those many who died that day, did not do so in vain.
I understand if you never forgive me for leaving and taking your uncle with me for an old fool’s mission. If any ill should fall upon him, it is of course of my fault. Your father has certainly express this point a number of times. Even if you’re still bitter with me, I want you advise you on one last thing.
Even in war and death, there a glitter of something more for you. It shines brighter than any gold or mithril in this world. You’ll know it when you see it, even if it’s at a long distance away, something unreachable for you to grasp. Sometimes, it’s not something you can physically see, but you can feel it in your very bones. Whatever that is, it is your destiny and it is far greater than anything. Do not let the sorrows of war consume your mind or you will miss that glitter in your life.
