My cat supervises as I pack for #Haiti: "Mom, where are you going? And will there be treats for me when you come back?" 🐱😂 In seriousness, this looks like a lot of "stuff", but after it's all unboxed, unpacked, and placed into secure Ziploc bags, these supplies will be a lifeline during our two weeks off the grid. My colleague and I will be spending two weeks in #Lagonave, an island near Port au Prince with lots of natural beauty - and a fantastic community learning center where we will learn so much! However, the island lacks a consistent source of electricity, running water, and is far away from medical attention. With that in mind, I focused on personal care/ first aid, consulting "what to pack for Haiti" lists in the process. Still missing? A mosquito net, anti-malarial pills, and most importantly, gifts for our home stay families. We will be living with families who send children to or are involved with the Matenwa Community Learning Center, and it will be nice to bring something from Boston as a gesture of goodwill to them for opening up their homes to us. I know there is no way to be prepared for every situation, so the most important thing we are taking will be an open mind as we learn from the community -building work at this revolutionary school. 🌴🌅🌞 #ayiti #ayiticheri #ayitibel #fftfellow #fftfellows
