I know I sound like a broken record but at this point the only real and consistent thing in this manga is all for one being a comedic genius; give the fragile child who desperately wants to be equal an impairing power, at best it'll turn out to be useful. at worst? it'll still be one hysterical little stunt.
“is there anything so undoing as a daughter?” face in my hands tears in my eyes rocking back and forth what the fUCK--
the thing that stain and spinner have the most in common is being so smitten with a person that they can’t help but take action but of course when spinner does it it’s ‘lame’ and ‘empty cosplayer’ when it’s stain it magically becomes ‘intense’, ‘purpose’, ‘love letter’.
spinner the spokesperson and shigaraki the leader. sick man what are they gonna do next, hold hands in front of a cheering crowd? look into each other's eyes, tenderly? ew.
hear me out, if horikoshi wanted to write some arc called i don’t know mva 2 longer and more spinner-focused out of spite for the anime's treatment right here right now no one could stop him
why are you wasting all your energy into hating characters and plotlines and other people and discussing what's valid what's toxic and who's right or wrong when you could unanimously direct all the anger towards studiobones' choice of postponing my villain academia
the fact is, for someone who's been following the manga for too long and solely for the villains since chapter 115, mva was the spark that ignited my love for the series once more in such a profound way and also at the same time it was the climax of all the suspicions and hints horikoshi masterfully left throughout the chapters until that point. shigaraki's sense of the world, his distorted kindness, the speculation behind the hands, his purpose, his potential, it was all intuitable yet still a little too headcanon-y and up in the air but with mva everything started with a bang and then went beyond expectations, made shigaraki into the stellar character we know today--the whole fandom did a one eighty on him so quickly I still feel the whiplash. twice's role that humanized and softened the whole arc so much, his connection with toga, his loneliness, his consequent and debatable-if-toxic-or-healthy-or-a-little-bit-of-both bond with the league, and toga's character blooming! the discussion about quirks influencing one's nature and how to handle that when the power you find yourself with is a destructive one, what kind of responsability one has towards society and what society could(and didn't) do for them. and more!! twas all already there still horikoshi was not satisfied because he had to take spinner's character (whom was suspiciously labeled as ‘gamer..?’ since chapter 160, thanks gta meme, hence some were already making connections with the obvious 'gamer!' shigaraki tomura) and turn him from a very minor character into the most loyal and enamored "fellow associate" (-mr c) and through his eyes the league became for the readers too something more akin to a familiar place, fucked up, full of painful and gory stuff (and wow did it also deliver on that front!), yet it still gave the impression of coming back to something well-known and lovable in its own way, with characters with their own gimmick, funny traits, meaningful roles. it's still the most complete arc in the series. nothing has topped it in regards of writing and pacing and sense of reward. do you get why I am sooooooo frustrated with the anime's situation. we could've had a round 2 of all of that, instead. instead.
it's still a luxury to have got it at all tho, which I'll always praise horikoshi for. and I'll probably go read it once more when the season's over and done. such a fantastic ride.
