Information & Trivia on Ayu
After I posted my reference page for Ayu, I couldn’t help but think of all the things I didn’t disclose about them in it. So, I decided to make this post on what I wanted to talk about but didn’t include there!
Ayu is Indonesian, more specifically, Javanese. Their bio listed the homeland as “Emerald of the Equator” (a 19th century nickname for the country) to fit in to the names of the other locations better.
Due to their upbringing, Ayu is trilingual. She can speak Javanese, Indonesian, and English.
As a Social Studies major in high school, Alchemy was pretty tough for them to get into since they haven’t had to study anything even close to it since they graduated middle school.
Their full name is “Ayu”. They don’t have a last name and don’t require 1 by law. The name itself is of Javanese origin and means “beautiful”.
People tend to call them “Yu(u)” as nickname at times.
Before they came to Twisted Wonderland, they lived with their parents and grandmother. Because her parents are usually busy and tend to come home late, she spent a good deal of her time with her grandmother when at home. Said grandmother taught them a fair amount of life skills.
They picked up archery from having it as an after-school activity. It helps them clear their mind.
Sometime after Ayu arrived at NRC, they decided to explore the island’s town. There, they found a long, black pleated skirt at a thrift shop and bought it as an alternative to the uniform’s pants they could occasionally wear. It reminds them of home. (It was inspired by a more modest variant of Indonesian school uniforms.)
Grim: Some fuzzy furball that happened to cross paths with Ayu. They weren’t the biggest fan of the magical cat at first, but they came to love and care for him over time. They like ruffling Grim’s fur sometimes to tease him.
Ace: One half of the brain cell duo. Though she’s not a fan of his occasional rudeness, she can appreciate his smarts and resolve. He’s a valued friend to them... even if he can be chaotic.
Deuce: The other half of the brain cell duo. They admires how he strives to better himself, even if he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. They’d likely study together once in a while to catch up on subjects, sometimes alongside Grim and Ace as well.
Kalim: After the ordeal at Scarabia, Ayu ends up visiting the other’s dorm here and there. It helps with dealing with homesickness since Scarabia reminds them of their home the most, even with the many differences. The pair end up spending there having fun with the dorm’s banquets having an occasional extra guest or 2.
Jamil: Ayu respects how hard he works everyday. They worry that he might grow too tired, so they like to help him around here and there. The 2 of them would sometimes cook together too.
