“ you’re here so often, i figured it was about time you had your very own mug."
livvy arrives in her usual whirlwind; letting herself into max’s place with the spare key, setting her coat and backpack and shoes in a somewhat-neat pile near the door, and loudly calling, “ max? i’m hooooooome-! ”
she finds the man in the kitchen, looking like a mild mannered grandfather and not the man she’s seen on terrorist watchlists growing up, and wastes no time throwing her arms around his middle in a hug. the kettle is in the sink and she suspects she’s caught him just before he makes tea. still clinging to his middle, she chirps, “---oooooh, can i boil it? i like it when it screeches, ”
before he answers, though, he’s opening one of the cupboards and gently handing her a mug. orange as the autumn leaves with a picture of a black cat on the side. her mug.
it’s what finally gets her to let go of him, able to hold the thing in both hands as she turns it this way and that in her little hands. “ i love it, ” she informs earnestly.
@ayzne inquired: ❛ it’s okay. you can let go. ❜

“I can’t father, if I do, then you’ll just go away.” Wanda whispered softly, she made no attempt to stand on her feet, she was reaching upward clutching her father’s cape. Her knuckled turned white from how hard her hands grasped the material, they trembled violently. She felt like she was being a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum with her father, but she didn’t care. Wanda had her father here with her, and she didn’t want to lose him, the only parent she had left in this godforsaken world.
you’ll have to get through me first…
livvy has been pretending to be human for so long that sometimes the dangers of being around them as she is fades into background noise. every time she and max play a game of chess, every time he walks her back to her apartment building there’s a little voice in the back of her head that whispers and taunts that one day he’ll find out and won’t want her around anymore. she’s always considered herself fortunate that her mutation isn’t obvious; not like this poor little girl being taunted at the playground just down the way from the chess tables.
with max not around just yet, livvy storms over to where the flock of older kids are tormenting the little girl with scaly wings that must have slipped out of the jacket she’d been hiding them with. the parents, if they notice, don’t do anything to stand up for the little mutant, so livvy takes it upon herself to identify the ring leader and without thinking, swings her backpack up and with enough force that it knocks the boy sprawling to the ground.
the result is immediate and somewhat in line with what livvy hoped would happen; the flock of kids turns on her in an instant and gives the other little mutant a chance to scramble away. she hadn’t much plan for what to do after that--- not like she could use the fire without making everything that much worse.
after being shoved to the ground, the kicks and punches start to pelt her like rain and all she can do is curl into a protective ball and wrench her eyes shut.
and then it’s over; livvy opens her eyes to see max screaming at the older kids- something she can’t quite make sense of with the blood roaring in her ears. the other kids turn tail and run when faced with potential consequences, leaving livvy slowly unfurling and max standing on the wood chips.
“ are they gone? ” she asks softly.
m.agneto will tell m.ystique that livvy isn’t ready for missions yet and m.ystique will be like “u literally blew up cop cars together,” to which max then informs her that that doesn’t count bc they got ice cream after.

“Then I’ll die trying, father.” Her father never approved of her leaving the Brotherhood in favor of the Avengers, even right now. She was a highly prized mutant for her abilities, she knew he would hate to let that kind of power slip through his fingers. “Always your weapon, but never your daughter.” Wanda said bitterly, she had always sought out his love and his approval so desperately.
Even now, Wanda still craved that affection and recognition from her father. At least now she has his attention without her siblings here to steal it away from her. She was the most powerful out of all his children, she wasn’t his favorite child.
@ayzne said: do you want some company?
lorna looks up from her book. it was unfortunate that she could be so easily spotted in public. she was in normal, civilian clothes, but her hair would always be able to be spotted from a mile away. all she wanted was to read in central park without someone disturbing her. and yet ... she couldn’t even be granted that much alone time. she peeks over the book, green eyes narrowing slightly, just for a moment. “ oh, hello, father, i didn’t recognize you without your ... costume. “
a pause. she’s tempted to say no, oh so tempted to say no just because. she’s not presently angry at him, although her feelings towards him could easily change. they do tend to change with every day. “ sure, i could use some company, “ she finally says, cheekily.
“ what brings you over here? me? “

TODAY ISN’T A GOOD DAY. there’s something doctor nicky used to say about negative thinking, about how deciding a day is bad means you’ll see it as bad no matter what, but you’re doing your best to forget everything he said to you - - - even things you might have found helpful before. especially those ones. you’re pretty sure he lost his license, last you heard, SO. it’s a bad day, and it keeps getting worse by the minute. your phone in shards on the pavement is enough to decide that, even if you had slept the night before instead of pacing and smoking your newfound bad habit of rooftop cigarettes.
“fuck, sorry,” you stand from where you’re crouched, shattered phone in hand, and look more at the screen than the person you were in the path of as you try to click on the power button. no use, and you knew it before you even tried. GREAT. emergency trip to the apple store wasn’t on your list of things to do, but - - - it’s fine. you can afford it without worrying about dinner for the next several weeks now, which you’re - not used to, “murphy’s law, right?” you try to strike up friendly conversation and can’t help but feel wrongfooted ; it doesn’t come as easy as it used to.
