Every year I’m always stunned at how The Arizona Burlesque Festival changes. This year was really exciting because I got to work with the incredible Kitty Von Quim! If you haven’t seen her act ‘Genius’ do yourself a favor and see it. The competition was all-out crazy! Last year’s winners gave excellent step down performances, and everybody brought their A-Game. Watching The Foxy Lexxi take home the AZBFest Belt was a moment I’ll never forget. Saturday was an adventure, and I’m forever indebted to Desiré d’Amour! And if you’ve never been to a Second Saturday at The Hut, our setup process can be a little shocking. The cast and crew absolutely kill themselves to make sure the show runs smoothly. DJ Dave and DJ Cass, Patrick and the bar staff at The Hut, Jake Von Karnas, Mr. Amry, the kittens Eva Destruction, Dusty Button, and Purina Meowmix, Bea Trouble and Ms. Berry B Nooner all stepped up in a major way. Major props to Sucre à la Crème for literally dropping everything and showing off her slip-covering skills. The performers in the showcase gave AZBFest the perfect closing night. And can we all take a moment to talk about how cool our after parties at The Hut and The Surly Wench were? Nothing like going crazy until 2am to keep you fresh all weekend long! I’m definitely not still recovering at all! This year was also completely sold out! I’ll chalk that up to the crazy cast of performers who were willing to come all the way out to the desert.
