Mount Kerkeslin with the Athabasca River Flowing By (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at Athabasca Falls and along the walkway with a view looking to the southeast across the open valley with the river flowing by and Mount Kerkeslin as a backdrop. This is along the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. My thought on composing this image was to capture that wide open feel with the setting. Nearby I included some foreground with the rocks along the rivers edge. I felt that helped to add a layered look with the river and then the forest and mountains to complete the image captured.

Arch Rock In Joshua Tree National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Arch Rock Nature Trail in Joshua Tree National Park with a view looking to the southeast at the namesake rock formation. Given the location and the rock formations around this area, my thought on composition was really limited with a focus more on the focal length. With this image, I pulled back on the focal length to include more of the surrounding landscape, as well as some blue skies to provide a backdrop for the arch rock itself in the image center.

Jasper National Park Has a Beauty to Stir a Thirst for Adventure by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views across this glacier valley with waters from the Columbia Icefield flowing by and then more distant ridges and peaks of Mount Andromeda and Mount Athabasca. This is at a roadside along the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. With this image, I chose to use the waters flowing by as kind of a leading line into the image and let that bring out a sweeping view leading up to those mountains off in the distance. I chose to underexpose a little bit with the shutter speed, so that I could bring out more details in the clouds that hung around the mountains. I was able to bring out the more shadowed areas across this landscape later in post-production.

Off to Explore the Bow Valley Parkway Once Again! With this image, I decided to capture the setting through an opening in some nearby trees, as the river flowed by with a backdrop of mountains.
