Outings in Everglades National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting extending to the northeast of a group on kayaks along moving along the Buttonwood Canal in this part of Everglades National Park. This was while on the Backcountry Boat Tour.

I Have Lived in Storm and Strife But Choose to Live in What Is Good (Pinnacles National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Condor Gulch Trail with a view looking northeast and up a nearby hillsides in Pinnacles National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was the contrast of colors between the earth-tones with the grasses and trees in the lower portion of the image, and the blues and whites of the skies with the wisp of clouds above. I tried to ensure that the upper portion of the hillside where it met the skies was about halfway, so that there was a balance between the two. The rest was later making adjustments with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

From Mount Lakeway and a View Under Power Utility Lines by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: With this image, I focused on the view from the end of the trail on Mount Lakeway. The view is looking to the northwest, underneath power utility lines that were heading in that direction downhill. I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward and use the downhill view to bring out a more sweeping view across this forested landscape. Not long after capturing this image, I came across an article that discussed some new features in Photoshop, including ways to work with skies. After doing some initial processing with DxO PhotoLab 4, I brought a TIFF image into Photoshop and experimented with that feature.

Tall Evergreens All Around the Flowing Waters of the South Fork Snoqualmie River by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: I decided to take advantage of this clearing along the trail that allowed me to to look upstreams to capture an image of the river as it flowed on by. As much of the area was shaded with the tall evergreens, I knew that I would have to find a mean point to meter this setting properly. I selected a point where are some of the sunlight was reflecting off of the trees and then later pulled out areas in shadows in Capture NX2. I later added a Pro Contrast and Foliage CEP filter to bring out more of the mood I felt with the look of sunlight coming through some trees for the final image.
