Explorations in Mesa Verde National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at the Square Tower House Overlook with a view looking to the north to the namesake Ancestral Puebloan ruins. This is in Mesa Verde National Park. In composing this image, I decided to take advantage of the high ground overlook. I was on in capture of you, looking down to the ruin formations. I decided to also zoom in with the focal length, and have them fill the image from edge to edge, while still including the cliff walls and nearby trees and small bushes as a framing element.
Ford Butte and a Look Across the New Mexico High Desert by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along Indian Service Rte 5 with a view looking to the north-northwest across the northern New Mexico high desert setting. Off in the distance is the volcanic pipe, or diatreme, of Ford Butte. Given the mostly overcast skies that afternoon, I decided to zoom in and focus on the butte itself. I pulled back a little on the focal link to include some of the nearby foreground to add an interest to the image while including some skies to use as a backdrop. The rest was metering to best bring out the colors present on this somewhat overcast day.
Exploring Amazing Places in Northern New Mexico by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at a roadside pullout along Indian Service Rte 5 with a view looking to the north-northwest across the northern New Mexico high desert setting. Ford Butte is the formation off in the distance.

Taking One Day at a Time in Redwood National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail with a view looking up and to the north at nearby coast redwoods in Redwood National Park. While I couldn't capture the entire height of these two nearby redwoods, from base to tree crown, I attempted to capture as much as I could. The idea being that the tree crowns with the skies above would be the focus. The tree itself though would be a leading line looking up into the image. I did though get close enough to the trees so that one could the details in the bark as part of the image captured.
Happy Outdoors Holiday in Redwood National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the north while taking in views of nearby coast redwoods along the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail in Redwood National Park. What I wanted to capture with this image was the look of the two redwood trees converging above me as if towards a single point. I wanted to create a balance between those two as they came together, using a diagonal look with the trees with a landscape orientation.
