Hear me out. Azriel and Eris being lovers since before Mor and Eris got engaged but once the engagement happened and Azriel and Eris broke things off because everything was "too complicated" despite them both knowing of the mating bond and not telling the other about it. Beron was also getting suspicious of Eris and so, to make sure Azriel would be safe, Eris made himself out to be the villain with everything that happened to Mor just to get Azriel to hate him and stay away. Meanwhile Azriel's 'hatred' for Eris that everyone assumes is because he hurt Mor, the woman Az loves, is actually because Azriel felt betrayed that his mate went against his family. In reality Azriel kind of blames Mor because she is what drove the initial wedge between them, intentionally or not, but he also feels guilty because he knows Mor suffered at the hands of the person he can't help but love most and he feels like a monster and a horrible friend because of it but at the same time loving Eris is so deeply ingrained into Azriel that there's nothing he can do but keep on loving him. Both of them yearning while Eris fights with his fear for Az's safety and Az fights with his heartbreak and betrayal. The inner circle starts suspecting that there's something more between them after seeing them interact at a few meetings and they want the full story but the real question is whether or not they can pry the truth from either of the two.

after a few years of their relationship, Azriel and Eris adopt a young Illyrian girl who lost her parents in the war with Koschei
Azriel sees her on one visit to Windhaven
his heart aches at the knowledge of what hardship she would have to face alone in the Illyrian war camps and he wants to help her
he asks Eris if they could adopt her, and Eris immediately loves the idea, his own heart aching when Azriel tells him about her, her big brown and terribly sad eyes, the tears running down her cheeks, her trembling lower lip when Azriel left
But these tears are nothing compared to the tears of joy that leave her when she gets adopted, weeping and sobbing first into Azriel’s shoulder, then Eris’, asking over and over again if this is really happening
and it is and let me tell you, these two are the best dads any child could hope for
Zada is a ray of sunshine in both their lives, and both Eris and Azriel do everything to make her life perfect
Azriel teaches her how to use her wings, how to fly and he also tends to her wings when they are knotted and hurt from flying too much
and Azriel is the one who always cooks her favorite meals and also teaches her how to cook, they very often cook together or make dinner for Eris when he has to deal with a lot of High Lord business
family dinners are a priority for them - every evening the three of them eat together, or more like the six of them if you count the three hounds as well (safe for when Azriel is on a mission that takes more days, but then they make up for it afterwards)
and talking about the hounds, even though Azriel was a little wary at first about letting his young baby girl play with this huge dogs, he immediately changed his mind when he saw how sweetly the treated her, often licking over her face, panting loudly and joyfully wiggling their tails
moving on to her other father; Eris is the one who loves doing her hair, he learns everything about different hairstyles from his sister-in-law, Elain, telling her to explain it to him in as much detail as possible so he can implement the techniques and styles on his daughter's hair later on
when he gets home from hair-education with Elain, they immediately try out all hairstyles, Azriel is sitting in the bathroom with them, Zada sits on the bathroom counter, Eris stands behind her, working his magic on her hair
Azriel watches in admiration, loving how concentrated his mate looks and how much Zada loves it, giggles and laughs
they love spending moments like this together, as both fathers often have to work a lot, and mostly are not there for her at the same time; but they always try to make it work
Azriel, although he dislikes his heritage, wants to inform his daughter about the Illyrians, after all she is one as well; he tells her about the Blood Rite, Ramiel and Enalius and also of course of wings and siphons
Eris on the other hand, explains a lot to her about being a High Lord and the Autumn Court
for both fathers Zada's education is very important - they want her to become a smart, strong and independent female one day
Azriel and Eris will always help her with homework, but at the same time let her figure out many things on her own, Zada is very smart and already knows a lot and also wants to discover many things on her own where both fathers always support her
and she is not only smart, the young girl is also quite a mischievous one and loves to steal her daddy’s crown, placing it on her head and sitting on his thrown, pretending she is the one ruling
Azriel loves this, bending over with laughter and tears in his eyes as he watches his daughter mimic Eris
Azriel finds this all highly amusing until his shadows start loving his daughter a little bit more, do everything she wants (even if it is sweets at three in the morning), and often trick him - but he can’t blame his shadows, how can you not love her?
and talking about love - this girl gets overflown with love, let it be tiny little presents, her favorite meals, so much quality time together and of course cuddles: cuddles in front of the fireplace, or when she wakes up in the middle of the night from a nightmare or the thunder she will slide into their bed, seeking shelter in Azriel’s huge wings who will wrap around her like a cocoon
Zada is also quite adventurous which sometimes results in scratched knees or little cuts on her hands
Azriel can’t really handle those injuries well, always blaming himself that he hasn’t paid enough attention and that he is a bad father
Eris mostly tends to her wounds and later tells Azriel that it wasn’t his fault, kissing him softly to make his point clear once again
also both Azriel and Eris will often question if they are good fathers, their own fathers not having been idols or someone to learn something from for themselves (they only learned how to not do things)
but whenever their daughter tells them how much she loves them, or when she grins from one ear to the other, they know they are doing things right (and as a parent you can make small mistakes, no one is perfect and they often remind each other of that)
family is immensely important for both Azriel and Eris and so they will often meet up with Elain and Lucien and their children, with the Inner Circle and their children or with their grandmothers - LoA and Azriel’s mother, who both adore the young girl from the bottom of their heart
and lastly, Gods, protect the poor boy who wants to date their daughter — he will have to pass an examination with both the spy and torture master of the Night Court, and the High Lord of the Autumn Court
"No funny business, buddy," Azriel warns, leaning his shoulder against the door frame, Eris is standing next to him, his shoulders squared. "Holding hands, alright, everything beyond that….you know about the consequences." Eris raises his brow, Zada groaning loudly behind her boyfriend, glowering at her fathers, her cheeks bright red
but all in all, Zada has a childhood filled with nothing but love and dedication, both fathers doing everything possible to make her life the best she can hope for
°Eris dresses Azriel for important events because we all know if he could, he would wear his illyrian leathers everywhere
°Eris can draw really well and sometimes he doodles little pictures and leaves them around in stupid places for Azriel to find, and i mean stupid places, he sticks them in the background of paintings or over the faces of the people in the painting, he sticks them to the ceiling above the bed, and on the outside of second story windows (Azriel admires his dedication)
° Azriel is a cat person but he makes an Exception with the smoke hounds because he finds them too cute
°Eris also has a symphonia and he tries to teach Azriel to dance, TRIES is the key word here, Az is not made for this, it takes them a month for Az to get through the whole dance without nearly knocking himself, Eris or something else over (but once Azriel succeeded, Eris thought every minute was worth it for how amazing Azriel looks when he is dancing)
°Azriel is touch starved so once he and Eris are official he loses all concept of personal space, he will always, always, always be in Eris's personal space, not that Eris minds cuz he's touch starved too, ( Eris will however continuously complain and roll his eyes but will never push Az away)
° If Azriel finds Eris laying on his back in the bed, he'll just flop on him and lay his head either on Eris's chest or against his neck, Eris will not stop him and will instead automatically start running his fingers through Azriel's hair to help him destress
Azriel wasn't a morning person, in fact his insomnia made it nearly impossible to like the mornings, however there are some exceptions, like now, his shadows had woken him up just after the sun had fully risen, for no other reason than to look at the male currently splayed across the bed next to him, Not that Azriel was complaining or anything. The male, his mate, looked ethriel under the rays of the golden morning sun, Eris was lying on his stomach head resting on his arms as he faced towards Azriel, sunlight catching on his cheekbones and across the panes of his back, Azriel found the toned muscles quite distracting especially when each dip and groove was accentuated by the morning light.
Azriel couldn't do anything but stare, which he'd apparently he'd been doing for awhile because Eris, who was anything but an early riser, was now looking back at Azriel with a rather annoyed look on his face, even if there was notable fondness underneath. "You're quite disruptive this morning shadowsinger" Eris said, his voice still half held in the grasp of sleep. "I haven't done anything" Azriel shot back as his eyes trailed along Eris as the male stretched, not looking away for even a moment. Eris gave him a skeptical look in response before he filled the mating bond with a sea of emotions, not just any emotions but rather Azriel's emotions, more specifically his emotions from the last few hours. In any other case Azriel would've probably been embarrassed about being caught by his mate while he was admiring said mate, but Azriel simply smiled at Eris and continued to watch him. "Have some shame" Eris said to him only to be ignored in favour of Azriel pulling him in close and holding him. Eris could only roll his eyes in an attempt to fight the fond smile forming on his face.
They stayed like that all morning, Azriel managed to catch Eris's eyes and in them he could see the comfort and safety that he felt as he lay with his head on Azriel's chest, and down the bond Azriel could feel the adoration that both,made his chest ache, and made him feel as though he could finally breathe after all these centuries. It was late in the afternoon when they finally left the bed.

🩹when Az has a nightmare, if his shadows don't wake Eris up first then the the mating bond does. Once Eris is awake he knows he should avoid touching Azriel especially his hands and wings, so instead he'll tug on the bond and send a whole bunch of good memories to him and that is either enough to calm him back to a much more peaceful sleep or wake him up, if it does wake him up then Eris waits for his eyes to clear and for him to remember where he is, then Eris wil kiss him and hold him until they fall back asleep.
When Eris has a nightmare Azriel knows that there is no use talking to try and wake him up so similar to before he uses the bond and he will use it to soothe Eris's panic, he will then use his shadows to hold Eris because he doesn't want to startle him. Once Eris calms down Az will then move him so that he is at least half sprawled on Az's chest and then hold him through the night.
( Also i 100% believe that Eris is the most touch starved, like don't get me wrong they're both touch starved but Eris is on a whole different level but he is also too prideful to admit it so he'll often say things like "you might as well just hold me since i already know you want to" and "because i know how much you desperately crave my affection" before cuddling or kissing Az and let's be honest Az already knows and finds it so amusing but he goes along with it anyway)
I need an Azris AU fic inspired by 'I won't say I'm in love' the song from 'Hercules' in which Eris is at book club with the Valkryies on their sleepover night and they are trying to get him to admit his feelings for Az, and just like the song Eris who has all of Meg's lines and is talking about Azriel, while Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie are the Muses. There's something about the "Hun, we saw you hit the ceiling" and "face it like a grown up, when you gonna own up that You've got it bad" lines that just picturing them coming from the girls is just chefs kiss.
