Please tell us more about your Mpreg Azris HC 😏
Firstly, I don’t really see it as an Alpha/Beta/Omega situation. My canon is more that High Lords (and some other very powerful male High Fae) can get pregnant as a magic-related phenomenon. Magic adjusts their bodies accordingly. But honestly, that’s not the part I pay the most attention to.
Since same-sex couples aren’t particularly unusual, but there hasn’t been an openly gay High Lord in years (except for Thesan), information on the subject isn’t exactly common knowledge.
So imagine Eris’ surprise when his body suddenly began to change. At first, he chalked it up to his new life as a mated male—more settled, less stress, maybe a little weight gain. Normal. And Azriel’s sweet tooth probably rubbed off on him too. The morning sickness? Strange, but it had to be related to the fact that he can't stop eating spiced caramel apple tart, right?
What was strange was the way his favorite smokehound, Nebula, had started following him around again, just like when she was a pup. And with a decidedly unfriendly attitude toward anyone who tried to get too close. She even growled at Azriel—and Nebula loved Azriel.
Eris still dismissed it. Until his mother visited him at the Forest House for tea and a chat. As the food was brought in, Eris casually mentioned that he’d been eating spiced caramel tart non-stop for two months. Narine (former Lady of Autumn, now Lady of Day) immediately began connecting the dots. It was his mother, she knew him like the back of her hand. And of course Eris looked different: his stomach was slightly rounder, his complexion more radiant than usual, and… he had the same craving she’d once had during her pregnancies with her seven children.
She didn’t want to frighten him without being absolutely sure, so she suggested they visit Thessan, to congratulate him after his mating ceremony. While there, Narine took the opportunity to search for books from the Dawn healers on the subject. There wasn’t much, but still more than could be found in other courts. Thessan, fully aware of the possibility, said nothing, but discreetly ensured that all relevant texts were available to her without difficulty. (Thessan is kind and considerate, no one can tell me otherwise.)
When they returned to Autumn, Eris was utterly confused when his mother brought him to his room, cast a shield so no one could overhear, and began asking him the strangest questions.
“Eris… my son, do you remember anything from when I was pregnant with your brothers?”
He still didn’t understand, but he began recounting what he remembered.
“And Eudora used to cook all the time…”
“Spiced caramel apple tart, Eris.”
In that moment, his brain froze. He finally understood what his mother had been trying to tell him. Eris, who was a very cultured male, ransacked his memory for anything he might have read on the subject, trying to piece together his thoughts. He was excited, terrified, and unable to fully believe it.
For days afterward, he avoided Azriel, wanting to be certain before saying anything. He read all the books Narine had left him, realized that every symptom matched, and eventually went to see his personal healer—the same one who had treated him since he was a fireling with skinned knees. She confirmed it: he was indeed pregnant. Rare, yes, but wonderful. She gave him tips for dealing with morning sickness and other discomforts.
Now came the hardest part: telling Azriel. His mate already sensed that something was wrong, though he didn’t know what. When Eris finally made him sit on the bed while he paced and rambled nonsense, Azriel grabbed him by the waist, pulling him close so he’d stop fidgeting and look at him.
"Fireheart, what's wrong?"
Eris didn’t know how to explain. Instead, he drew Azriel closer until his head rested against his abdomen. Azriel let him, standing there in confusion, until he suddenly went very, very still—and then hugged him, eyes wide.
There was a heartbeat. Not Eris’s, but another. Softer, easy to miss unless you knew to listen. But now it was clear as day.
Everything fit together. And now, with Eris so close and this miraculous sound in his ears, Azriel also noticed the change in his mate’s scent: something sweet and fresh, like autumn fruit trees—subtle, but undeniably new.
Eris explained what he knew, and they were both amazed, overwhelmed, but happy. Over time, Azriel grew so protective that Eris sometimes wanted to kill him. But at night, when Azriel fell asleep with his head resting on Eris’s hip so he could hear their daughter (yes, their first child is a girl), Eris couldn’t stay angry.
They were terrified but certain of one thing: their daughter would know she was loved from the moment she entered the world, even before, because they reminded her every day by speaking to Eris’s growing belly. The past still weighed on them, but they refused to let it win. If anything, it only made them more determined to be good parents.
Velta is the spitting image of Azriel, but with Eris’s eyes. He’s a little outraged about it, but at the same time, he knows this girl is—and always will be—his weakness. Nothing is impossible if his daughter asks for it.
The thing is that magic is unpredictable, and the texts say that this kind of pregnancy is rare, spoken of almost as a myth. They only mention one other case: a former Lord of Spring who had two children with his male mate. So the second time, when Velta is still small, it’s a surprise, but a highly celebrated one.
The third time, when Velta and Astraia are already six years old, really isn’t expected. Fintan looks so much like Eris that when he turns ten and they make a portrait of him to hang alongside the rest of the family, everyone could swear it’s Eris as a child rather than his son.
Eris remembers perfectly the night Ignatius is conceived, at the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of his mating ceremony. The date lines up exactly, and Lucien and Cassian remember it for years afterward, since they’re the ones who catch them on the balcony of the Forest House. Fortunately, all they see is Azriel’s back and his wings shielding Eris.
The twins, on the other hand, arrive when they truly believe it will never happen again, about fifty years after they accepted the bond. Apparently, the Vanserras are incredibly fertile. Sorin and Ilkay are proof of that.
The time Eris really loses his patience—and threatens to cut off a part of Azriel’s body he’s very fond of—is only three years later. Seven. With Elaia, they are now the parents of seven, and he can hardly believe it. And even though he complains about the symptoms all over again, and about having a mate who barely lets him go to the bathroom alone, he’s as happy as he’s ever been.
So… here are my headcanons for Azris mpreg. Probably cornier than you expected, but I can always make another post with juicier details if you’d like.
Also let me know if you want to know more about Vesta, Astraia, Fintan, Ignatius, Sorin, Ilkay and Elaia. They are adorable, although Uncle Lucien says he dreads every time he has to look after them. Aunt Nesta is the one who spoils them the most, but no one has proof.
