Cuenca, Ecuador: Cuenca, officially Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca, is an Ecuadorian city, head of the canton of the same name and capital of the province of Azuay, as well as its largest and most populated city. It is crossed by the Tomebamba, Tarqui, Yanuncay and Machángara rivers,[4] in the south-central inter-Andean region of Ecuador, in the Paute river basin, at an altitude of 2,538 meters above sea level and with a temperate Andean climate averaging 16.3 °C. Cuenca is the Spanish word for Basin is also the name of two cities : One is a traditional Castillan town two hours from Madrid, known for it’s hanging houses, the other the third biggest cities of Ecuador, known for it’s flower market. They have a total of six rivers between them: Huécar and Júcar in Spain and Tomebamba, Tarqui, Yanuncay and Machángara in Ecuador. Both have a rich history and traditions, incredible architecture, amazing colors and breathtaking natural landscapes.
