Adventures in Troubleshooting
I just updated my TS4 CC skin tones using CmarNYC’s Skin Converter tool for the Dec 2020 patch so they *should* work with the new patch. Loading into my full of CC save file now and I am much concern.
Take 1: The custom skin tone sims are fine. The Sims with default skins all show up with the “?” broken CC nonsense. In CAS, they all look fine with no concerns though?
Take 2: Removing CC, delete the thumbnail cache, and restart the game. I was just playing last night with my build mods and fix mods in, so I know they are fine. Removed Basemental Drugs, Wicked Whims, and Wicked Perversions. All great mods, but also all prone to not-playing-nice after updates and sometimes with other mods. One of these is absolutely the problem! Normal skin tones are now working. Downside, my game now does not remember which custom skins my sims had, but it did with mods in? I just.... anyway, off to make sure I have the latest update for all three of these mods.
Take 3: All my mods are up to date. Which means someone is conflicting somewhere. Start putting the big three back in one at a time to find my culprit. Its not Basemental Drugs. Its not Wicked Perversions. I suspected it was Wicked Whims. The question now, is it Wicked Whims or one of the little addons I have for naughty sims in that folder? Time to take it apart. The more I look, the more I realize it IS the main WW mod. Clearly its in conflict with something, but I have no idea what.
Take 4: I’m done for now. Solution for me? Remove Wicked Whims at the moment. Consider Wonderful Whims as a compromise. Of course, Wicked Perversions has to come out as well with no Wicked Whims. Good news, these will have more of an affect on my private gameplay than my posted gameplay. Also, I’ve been playing without quite a bit lately. I will look into the issue further at a future date.
Side bar discovery: In my Wicked Whims folder I have an old file called TURBODRIVER_WickedWhims_Extra_Skin_Tones.package -- When I have this package installed, my game remembers who has which CC skin tones that I had previously installed, even after my having to update said CC. This is a WIN WIN for my full of CC skin game save! So, even without full WW, Turbodriver is saving me time with old mods and I am so grateful!
Take 5: I was wrong. I thought I was done, but this was still bothering me. Stripped EVERYTHING from my mods folder except Wicked Whims. Deleted the thumbnail cache before opening the game. Re-downloaded WW in case the previous download had been corrupted. I have no idea why, but the current version of Wicked Whims - V162a released on Dec 11th 2020 is absolutely borked in my game even when I let it stand alone with no other mods. Okay. Not me then!
