One day last year. I was at the cashiers one weekday morning (so we normally dealt with mothers with young kids, older people, and college students at that time) and heard screaming and saw one of my coworkers running away.
Apparently, an old man took out a Playboy magazine out of its packaging and started reading it in cafe, which is a big no no because it had nudity at the time. My coworker confronted him, and when the man said no, my coworker tried taking it from him...
...which made him go ballistic. He started screaming.
“I WANT THAT PIECE OF SHIT TO COME OVER HERE. I DID NOT FIGHT IN VIETNAM FOR THIS SO IF SOMEONE WANTS TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT HE CAN SUCK MY DUCK”
And he went on and on and on. He called my poor coworker every insult and slur in the book. According to my stock boss, he ran to the stock room and starting punch boxes. But since this was in front of the entrance, no one could come in or out of the store and I basically got a front seat to this whole shitstorm. My managers even tried to keep him back so he not only doesn’t attack my coworker, but to prevent him from harassing anyone else in the store.
I personally was terrified of him taking out a gun and even planned an escape route to the stock room but seeing his behavior I doubt he’s legally allowed to own a gun.
It probably lasted 15-20 minutes until the cops arrived. Unfortunately, he wasn’t arrested but he’s never come into my store since then.
Anyway, I have a bunch of other crazy experiences through my 5+ years working in customer service but this is one of the craziest. It was terrifying when it first happened, but looking back it’s freaking hilarious.
For every “★” I get, I will post a fact about myself.
