the words hit him like a slap to the face , all the air in his lungs disappearing in the blink of an eye . he’s had a myriad of insults thrown at him over the years . anonymous comments left carelessly on blog posts , talent scouts encouraging him to find another dream ( as if this was ever his dream to begin with ) , industry peers whispering snide remarks just loud enough for him to hear but this — 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 . this was different .
this was heartbreak . this was confirmation that , at the end of the day , he has always been disposable . he was his mother’s biggest regret and nothing more than an afterthought for his father . he knew . he always knew . but hearing it expressed so clearly , the words leaving his mother’s lips like nothing , as though she was reciting the weather and not crushing her only child’s spirit — it was a pain he hadn’t known until this very moment .
