What books does B like? Do you, C, and D all take turns reading to B?
The husband and I definitely read our fair share of books to B each day--his attention span for reading is seriously insane. He will easily read, like, ten books in a row and be engaged and focused the entire time. It’s awesome. . .most of the time. . .but sometimes it’s also EXHAUSTING if we’re being honest! ;) But, then, much of toddlerhood can be a bit exhausting. :) C does not like reading to B because he feels “dumb” doing all the voices and the theatrics that B expects. We don’t push it at all because he’s 17 and I would have been exactly the same at his age. C will happily play lego building with B and that is something I find duller than dull, so I’m happy to have someone who can do that engagingly!
It seems the perfect time of year to share a list of B-approved books in case anyone is looking for a gift or two! B literally has hundreds of books and we read most of them, but he definitely has distinct favorites. They change from time to time, but here are his current top ten that we have to read multiple times a day:
I’m Sticking with You--this book is ADORABLE. I don’t even mind reading it a million times a day. The illustrations are the cutest!
Grumpy Monkey--So cute, and a good message about feelings being valid and just needing to be felt sometimes! :)
Stand Tall, Molly Lou Mellon--Can I just say how happy I am that B loves this book because it is one of my FAVORITES!
Can I Play Too? Really, B hasn’t met any Elephant and Piggie book he doesn’t like--he’s getting more for Christmas--but this one is definitely his favorite. It doesn’t matter how many times we read it, he cracks up multiple times every time!
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? Unlike the Elephant and Piggie books, B does not like the other books in this series as much, with the possible exception of How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You?
There’s a Bear on my Chair--This book is super cute and also makes B laugh every time!
Opposites; Eek, Halloween; and Moo, Baa, LaLaLa!--B has a ton of the Boynton books, but these are the ones he loves!
Dragon Post--The letters in this book are way too long for a 19 month old, but we just paraphrase. He LOVES this book and always wants to read it with his stuffed dragon.
Splat the Cat Sings Flat--I swear he has practically worn out this book already. If there’s one book we read the most, it’s probably this one. He’s obsessed with it. However, he’s totally “meh” about all other Splat books. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Another Monster at the End of This Book--He also likes the original, but this one has Elmo in it and he finds Elmo particularly hilarious for some reason. Lol
Agh! How could I forget Gaston and Antoinette--I personally find these to be just OK, but B loves them both and I got them as a baby shower gift from another mom whose kid read them ALL THE TIME.
Do your kids have any favorites that I should think about getting B for Christmas??
