Title: A Discovery of Witches
Author: Deborah Harkness
Genre: Mystery, Fantasy, Romance
Rating: 14.6 A
Review: I loved this book but it was one of those ones where you aren’t quite sure why… It was a brilliantly inventive world of magical realism with spells and enchantments, mythology and history. I can’t help thinking that this is what Twilight would have been if it wasn’t terrible and aimed at angsty teens. Diana Bishop is a witch of rich heritage from two powerful families who has refused her true nature, choosing instead to parade around as a human in the halls of Oxford. When a magical manuscript finds its way into her hands, her act comes crashing down. Witches and Vampires and Daemons are everywhere and all of them want one thing; for Diana to get the book again. Mathew Clairmont, a centuries-old vampire, has made it his personal mission to keep her safe. Now, if only she could figure out what he wants… I’m always a fan of a good fantasy story and this one was truly fantastic. With historical facts, romance, drama and action it had pretty much everything one could want from a story. I read this entire thing in 36 hours non-stop because I simply couldn’t put it down. It is by far one of the best books I have ever read and I’ve been sitting on my thumbs for two years waiting for the last book in the trilogy and I WILL WAIT TILL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH IF I HAVE TO HARKNESS!!!
