Marty McFly gets to do the “Wow I think you’ve shrunk since I last saw you!” uncle joke with Doc Brown’s kids except he’s deadly fucking serious because he never meets these kids in the right order along their own timeline. There’s also really nothing to do to avoid comparing and ranking them along ages: 8-year-old Verne is quiet, which is greatly preferable to 13-year-old Verne, who is moody. 17-year-old Verne has his own time machine and is thus a source of great alarm.
if I had a food truck I would get the license plate registered as ‘outathyme’
i’m just saying, if i were a timetraveler from the future i would definitely travel to today
Watching Back to the Future Part 2
Shit guys, we've got like 2 weeks to invent flying cars that run on garbage...
Honestly, I know she's pretty much a throwaway joke-cum-plot device, but I can't help but be kind of impressed with Marlene McFly. Her brother was arrested, and she apparently decided the logical course of action was to spring him from jail. Who does that?
This is overly long and trimming posts is a pain these days so theroyalzookeeper I‘m just answering your tags in a new post haha YOLO.
YES EXCELLENT MORE STUFF, BTTF, have you heard about the IDW comic series they're gonna do?, it'll apparently be canon and explore like some backstory and timeline stuff, like how Doc and Marty met is the first issue and it comes out October 21st, (obviously), I'm hype.
YES, I have heard about it! My reaction to the simple fact that it is going to exist was jaded skepticism, but then I read IDW is doing it and I was like ‘UM.’ Because they’re putting out all sorts of great stuff right now, like their Ghostbusters title, which is the same kind of adaptation - where the universe is crazy and it’s important not to get distracted by that before you can really sink the original work’s tone - and which I can confirm it’s pretty excellent.
And like you mention the first two stories are apparently going to be about the two big vague backstory things - how the brotp met, and that one time Doc’s house burned down. And my initial reaction to that was, ‘I’m not sure I even want to know??’ You know? But then it’s like, oh, one of the co-creators is overseeing??? And it’s being written by a guy from Ghostbusters and a guy who works on their Transformers comics, which I have not read yet, but it seems universally agreed that they are awesome. So that’s really promising??? And then apparently they’re not doing plots chiefly focused on new time travel, and I can see how that could be a disappointment, but I’m actually really excited that they’re focusing on the timeline that already exists, instead. (Timeline...s.) It seems way more likely to result in stories I actually want to read.
So that’s how I went from slight trepidation to geeking out at (uninterested) friends over text at 3 a.m. and debating the ethical logistics of proposing to a comic that isn’t even out yet.
So yeah I’m also hype.
Personally I’m hoping Jennifer gets to be involved in something cool. I always feel like she got short shrift.
(Also, it’s not going to happen, but when I read they were doing stories about alternate realities my first thought was for my vague curiosity about the Marty from the alternate timeline in the Telltale game who plays the ukulele. I can only sort of half envision this kid. What is his deal.)
