Ah so, the Witch Hat Atelier anime is that good. It’s actually nothing short of phenomenal and is probably already shooting for anime of the year first episode alone. Like it’s fucking phenomenal.

That said. I don’t think. Please read the manga man like the pages themselves ARE the magic like the cinematography in the anime is fantastic however, Shirahama’s lineart IS the magic I don’t even know how to convey this like. It’s really a medium thing

I think the worst part of going to twitter (sorry) and reading takes on Knives is so many people genuinely think he hates his mother. Maybe in stargaze I mean that’s the dinner they are serving.

But that’s like the worst chance ever because you can tell in Max so much of his anger is just…heartbreak. He loves Rem. He can hide behind the “Rem poisoned Vash’s mind” all he wants but the fact he just casually brings her up by himself in an empty room to “hate” on her and then also tell Legato about her and stories of his childhood with her and Vash (like cmonnnnnnnn),

it’s just like so much of this character is the denial of himself and refusing to look in the mirror because if he does shit breaks. So much of his character is just pure lying and as an audience you have to shake your head because it’s so freaking obvious and also pathetic.

Idk man so much of Knives is how pathetic he is and that’s like the ‘evil’. But when you take that away and you’re like “No he does hate his mother actually”…it’s like…oh. So he’s just evil. He just has pure malice in his heart man. No crumb of cautionary tale for you

Trigun and DMC having adaptations made with directors Larping (sorry let me use that word once please) as fans of the source material with the same VA for the red coat wearing protagonist and the evil evil mischaracterising of his blue coded twin brother who shared a traumatic past around their mother against a broader ethical dilemma they represent is so fucking insane to me i know one specific demographic of fan is sick to their stomach rn

When I’m drunk at the function but I gotta mention how Knives has his one his eyes usually obscured either by his own hand or by the use of shadow in the art itself and Vash very rarely doesn’t have both his eyes open or in light, but they are obscure by his glasses, because ultimately Vash can see the world for what is is but does not want to be seen by the world…and then, and then Knives only hides half of himself, he only hides half of himself but in turn only sees the world through one perspective. Through the imagery of sight Vash is depicted as someone masking his own pain but ultimately still feels it, recognises it in others…where- where knives is blinded by AND to it. Hahaha!

The reason Knives was piss yellow in the stargaze finale is cause it’s directly in contrast to Purple or otherwise violet. Which were the colours of Vash’s final form thing at the end of stampede…That is why…he was piss yellow…

“Razlo ‘I have a boner’ Tripunisher of Death” okay but he would say that. It’s like dropped so badly in Gaze and with the tone of the show so far is so out of place but let’s get this straight…he would say that (maybe not that direct sentence but he’d let us know! )

You don’t even need to tell me or show me the dark house translation with explicit sexual text for me to know that there is a sexual component to Razlo’s violence. That shit is in the artwork itself.

I’m still angry they had that line in stampede where Rem asked Knives to just pretend he can eat and drink when everyone else wakes up and that was never like ever explored again. I’m? I’m sorry for thinking that would be significant beyond fucking lore??

I have no one to talk to about this it’s such a small thing but it drives me insane.

So idk I’ve been doing more reading and listening, and while this is actually not my main concern at all I was thinking about the ways Knives could mirror white supremacy in all his iterations and how far the context of the dependent plants, makes that kinda iffy, per say?

And because every Knives is different I really do mean like, understanding and lowkey comparing how far each iteration falls into that pipeline.

I know 80% of the fandom is white but I’m not letting that really take away from the discussion. I would like to hear it more from other POC obviously but like yea. Things I kinda wanna ask in the book club but not sure if I should.
