This is the symphony that, to my opinion, best represents the work of Arvo Pärt. Even though it predates the establishment of tintinnabuli it is a step in the direction that would lead to the emergence of that style. This piece means a lot to me. It is my preferred symphony and the music piece that I recommend when people dismiss post 1950's classical music.

She's got everything: First symphony to feature banjo, first symphony composed by African American composer to be featured by major symphony orchestra, an incredible homage to jazz styles of the time, and just all around a beautiful listen.

I bought this album for the viola concerto, but this symphony is great!

joe hisaishi does a lot of the composing for studio ghibli movies and he fills my soul with joy. this is his latest symphony, premiered over the summer. it's only 3 movements, ending with the slow movement. he does symphonic minimalism so well <3

florence beatrice price my beloved <3 this piece was never performed during her lifetime, it was lost until the manuscripts were found in her house in 2009 and then was premiered in 2018 in arkansas. I am once again obsessed by her replacing the scherzo with a juba. so thankful we recovered this one, hopefully we can get 2 back someday too.
