Okay, here’s my two cents re: Bon Appetit.
The videos have returned, and my gut instinct was just to hide them from my timeline and unsubscribe. There’s two videos: Chris Morocco making meatballs, and a new black chef, Chrissy, making vegan fried oyster mushrooms.
Out of curiosity, I went to check the ratios of likes to dislikes, and Chrissy has a ratio of ~2:1 likes:dislikes (morning of 10/15) and Morocco has a ratio of ~3:1. I’m seeing a lot of comments in the Chrissy video like “whoops, sorry, have to dislike because of Bon Appetit!”
No you don’t.
Go do that to Chris Morocco’s video, and don’t let it play all the way through. Watch Chrissy’s, give it some love, and comment positively. Give her numbers to negotiate with if she needs it. A 35% dislike rate isn’t going to help her.
I have no idea why, after all this, everyone went to shit on the new Black creator more than Chris Morocco. Come on, guys. Move past performative and THINK a little.
