I have this idea for a comic au where, instead of imprisoning them again Bel sends Az and Baaz to live in the North with Clariel and they basically just become like, weird roommates. I think about it a lot so we'll see if I actually get around to drawing anything eventually. Mostly I just like monsters and have a weird sense of humor. ( ^-^)ノ∠※。.:*:・'°☆ Baaz is usually pretty chill, but Az turns into an annoying shit when she's bored. Because they're still bound to her, Clariel has to keep them in line. [Baaz: Az, I swear to Orranis if you touch me again I will f*ing murder you. Az: . . . Clariel: If you're going to fight, at least do it outside this time. (I am not rebuilding my cabin again)😒]

Sketches of Baazalanan from last night. Trying to get a better idea of how a creature made of bones and evil magic fluid-flesh would move around was an interesting creative challenge.

Concept sketch for Baazalanan from Clariel. I've gotten the hang of my design for Aziminil, so I thought it might be fun to try something different. Whereas I imagine Aziminil's body to be similar to that of a normal organic creature with bones, tendons and muscles all connecting together, I pictured Baazalanan to be made of a more fluid substance within which bones are merely suspended. Its head, feet and hands have a more fixed soild stucture, but the rest of its body contains only enough bones to give the suggestion of a frame. When it stands straight and still, most of the bones are concealed within its fluid-flesh, but because they are not actually attached to anything, the ends will protrude as it moves and bends its limbs.

Abhorsen Belatiel has some unconventional ideas about the punishment of Free Magic creatures. However, Clariel thinks he’s not off the hook.
