After having seen them live at summer festivals four times, I finally wanted to experience Savages in the darkness of a club venue.
So I went to Malmö to catch the band there. And I was truly lucky: The venue Babel turned out to be a compact small club (I suppose, probably one the smallest venues on their Eurpean tour).
It was good to see them again. But something seemed to have changed. Their show was energetic as ever but at the same time their serious fervour seems to have become milder. At some point during the show, a fan in front of the stage tried to take a picture right in the face of singer Jehnny Beth. She (mockingly?) made an attempt to take the phone out of his hand but in the end just smiled about the incident. This little episode is noteworthy, as Savages earlier were much more outspoken about the issue of taking pictures during their shows.
They are still performing all in black clothes, but this time it felt more fitting to capture them in color photography.
I am looing forward to seeing them again quite soon at the Le Guess Who? festival in Utrecht.
