It's really interesting to think about the evolution of my daemons. They have changed so much. I guess that means I have changed as well.
Everything has changed, their number, the relationship between them, their dynamic, their interactions. It's breathtaking how much they have truly evolved. If you had described to me our situation a few years back, I would have thought you a madman. Alma emerged last year on March 14nth and in only a year she has changed so damn much its scary. Denali has been with me since I was 11 and he has changed so much in the last few years 11 year old me wouldn't recognize him.
Alma started of as a radiator of warmth and positive energy. She was supposed to be soft and sweet and gold like honey, she was quiet and gentle unlike anyone has ever been to me. And she was all that for a period of time. And she still is in all honesty, she just has a feral, chaotic side to her now. She has become bold and bright like summer sunshine, explosive energy and daredevil-ness all in one. The best way to describe her now is himbo, dumb, lovable, jock.
Denali was always a more go with the flow kinda guy. He is always just vibin'. It may seem like his energy matches Alma in its relaxed nature, but truly embodies a different side of gentleness. Denali is not quiet, he is serene, he is not soft, he is enveloping. If Alma is summer sunshine, Denali is the night sky, full of spectacle stars and all consuming. He was never very talkative, or over the top, never trying to show himself over others. I think that was because when he settled when I was around 17, it took him a lot of time to get used to his settled form, he was very self conscious. He is has now grew out of that fear, the fear of being too much. Now he can speak his mind. He seems more bitter, not in a mean way, but in a "no-filter" way. I think it was Pia who (@dximonions) described at one point her daemon Nyota Ahndy as her inner voice with no filter. It's not that he's mean or evil, he just allows himself to say what he thinks. It seems that Denali with all the positivity that Alma radiates, wants to keep the balance, or bring some realism.
Again I want to say that he is not mean to me or anyone else, I can differentiate between Denalis voice and my depressive thoughts. He is just a rude lovable bastard man.
As some of you may know, in the early days of Almas emerging I used a simple phrase to explain what wasn't clear for me. I used to say that she was a side of Denali that was cut off. His gentleness, his affectionate side, his feminity cut off to give life to little Alma. So, at one point after Alma was a well established individual, they wanted to try an experiment. They tried to fuse Steven Universe style! The experiment would show if Alma was truly a part of Denali, then the fusion would just give us Denali with no differences, just a little more cuddly. If Alma was an individual of her own then the fusion would give birth to something completely new.
And so Babylon came into being. At that time we used to call them Dalma, but just like Garnet is not named Rupphire, she is her own individual, so are they. They are a complete new being with a duality unmatched, exciting, excited and larger than life. If Alma is like summer sunshine and Denali is like the night sky, Babylon is like a nebula in space. Dark and shiny, intimidating and inviting all in one.
In the beginning they were only an experiment, something new and scary the daes dared only try to achieve. But after a while, we realized that we could evolve more, as a team we were missing something if we wanted to reach our true collective self. We thought that a third daemon might be the answer. But it didn't feel right. It was hard for me to project yet another being, it was hard for the daes to find a dynamic that a third individual might fit, and we settled that it wouldn't work. Although we kept coming back to the fusion, Babylon, Dalma then, claiming that they would be the perfect candidate, or that they complete us so well.
So this is a new era for us, we are still trying things out. We'll see how it goes, but we know that however this turns out we will be here for each other.
