Back at the start of quarantine Ashton had asked you to help him set up go pros in his practice room so that he could post videos to his insta tv channel of him doing a few drum covers. You easily agreed, finding the best angles for the project.

The cameras stayed up throughout the week, even though he didn’t end up doing drum covers as often as he had originally planned, disappearing from his social media after the first few weeks that the album was out, continuing to work, doing interviews and other promo over the phone and email. 

He did continue to do some covers and practice the new songs, but he didn’t film any of them, but you enjoyed hearing the sound of his drums and occasionally watching him when your own workload allowed you a moment of free time.

On week six, you could tell that things had calmed down some, but Ashton needed a distraction. You walked up to him after you’d had lunch, asking him a question you’d been considering for a while, even before quarantine. “Ash, I’ve been wondering, could you teach me how to play drums?”

Ashton looked up, hazel eyes shining. “Really?” he asked, his hands finding yours.

You smiled, nodding at him and before you knew it he was dragging you down to his practice room. He sat down on his drumstool, holding you in his lap. He grabbed a fresh pair of drumsticks, helping you hold them, directing you to each piece of the drum set, explaining the different types of drums and cymbals, letting you hit them to experience the different sounds.

You could tell he was excited as he told you everything, guiding you through some basic fills while you were there. He continued the lessons through the quarantine, giving you an even further appreciation of what he did. He showed you different techniques and ways to smoothly transition from one spot to another, even adjusting his drum stool so that you could reach the pedals once he thought you were ready to try and practice without his guiding hand.

He’d done that before, when he was explaining those parts of the drum, letting you get used to the action of moving your feet to the different pedals and now you were combining what he was teaching you. He sat on the floor in front of the set, grin on his face as he waited for you to show him what you learned. You’d chosen a song with a slower rhythm as the first full song to play for him.

Ashton stared in awe as you played, eyes tracking your movements as you played. “That was great, babe,” he said as you finished, getting to his feet and stepping behind you and wrapping his arms around you and kissing the top of your head. 

He did guide you through the mistakes he’d noticed, but you’d played through, just like he’d told you the week before when you were working on learning this song. He also gave a few more tips on things you could do to incorporate some little tricks in a performance. You smiled, knowing he was enjoying this as much as you, happy that you wanted to learn more about something he loved almost as much as he did you.

There were a few promo videos where he wore it but there was never an official shoot with it, just my header pic and These Hand Photos

I haven't been able to decide if this is the same shirt or not so it's possible he wore it in the past as well. 👩🏻‍🔬

Ah, The Star. One of my fav topics 😌

The band played in New Orleans on October 29 and there was no star.

The next show was October 31 in Dallas and we were all shit-talking Ash for not dressing up for Halloween (based on the m&g photos we saw) until they went onstage and suddenly: BAM, Halloween and the world at large no longer existed. Only Star. Only Arm.

The true chaotic brand of not only the World War Joy tour but of this man in general.
