Maybe it’s the fact that they are attentive and caring parents. Or that the male and female pair for life and they take turns incubating the eggs, and feeding and protecting the chicks. Maybe it’s what they represent to the Native American culture: a carefree attitude, versatility, and freedom. Whatever it may be, the “dirty bird” as known in some circles, though better recognized as the seagull, has captured my heart.
