My idea was: Steve kept dreaming of Bucky while he's under the ice. He refused to leave his dreams, but Bucky told him to “wake up” and “don't linger on these illusions anymore.” Otherwise, the “Bucky” part of him would be gradually eroded, only the winter soldier part left. (Well, coz if Steve doesn't wake up, no one could ever wake up the Bucky inside the winter soldier.)
